K-BEAUTY: The Case Full Of Seoul

by - August 15, 2019

Hello! I'm super excited to share with you guys this new kit from Umma called The Case Full Of Seoul*, an 8 piece Korean skin care set that's available exclusively at Costco here in Canada! Last year, Umma released a similar set to this at Costco in the US, but it included a couple more products that weren't included in the Canadian set - which I suspect may be a regulations thing, specifically with the sunscreen. Because I wanted to share this with you guys - it's available now! - I haven't had a chance to fully test out the products, so while there will be some first impressions, this isn't a review. It's really just a look at what's inside, with info about each of the products. I'll actually probably try out all of the products and give some of them dedicated reviews once I've given them a good go - so keep an eye out for that!

No more rambling, let's just take a look at the products!

As you can see, The Case Full Of Seoul includes 8 products that encompass an entire skin care routine featuring hero products from 6 different brands. I feel like, as someone who has paid attention to K-Beauty skin care over the years and is definitely getting back into it now, all of the brands that were chosen are ones that I'm familiar with, with many of the products being ones that I've been interested in trying out. The products included are:

9Wishes Rice Foaming Cleanser
May Coop Raw Sauce Mini (Toner)
Urang True Rose Repair Essence
Tov Camellia Wrinkle Free Eye Solution
May Coop Raw Moisturizer
Touch In Sol No Poreblem Primer
Urang Vitamin Oil Serum
IWTL All-In-One Concentrate Treatment Mask

I really like the way that they describe K-Beauty in their description as being about a routine focused on a set of products that work together to suit your needs. It's also about maintaining that routine, focusing on nourishing the skin and giving it what it needs without overwhelming it, so that the results are more enduring. I don't generally see as much focus on overnight results from Korean skin care brands so much as a focus on the long term care of your skin.

Because a K-Beauty skin care routine can be a little bit confusing - I've seriously seen people completely flummoxed by the hows and the whens of them when trying them out - they've provided four different routines that detail exactly how to use the products included. I have to say, I absolutely love that and I think it makes this kit really beginning friendly and shows that a K-Beauty routine doesn't have to be overwhelming.

9Wishes Rice Foaming Cleanser

150ml | Non-irritating foaming cleanser hydrates skin even after thoroughly ridding skin of makeup, the day's grim and excess sebum. Infused with nourishing rice extract, it helps to minimize and cleanse pores, leaving a smoother and healthier complexion. Recommended for sensitive skin types; no stigmatization.

Looking through the ingredients for this cleanser, it's definitely heavy on the rice. It contains micro-ground rice powder to gently exfoliate, rice bran water that is said to brighten and restore hydration, as well as sacchromyces/rice bran ferment and rice bran extract. From what I can tell just doing a little bit of targeted Googling of the ingredients, this seems to be really a really solid formulation. I've actually been wanting to try this one out for quite a while after hearing some really, really good things from some skin care YouTubers that I follow, so I was SUPER excited that this was included.

My first impression of this cleanser is really solid so far. It has a really interesting texture and though it does foam, I don't find that it leaves my skin feeling stripped or tight when I rinse - probably because rice is a hydrating ingredient. The rice powder is so fine that there's a very, very gentle physical exfoliation that you can really only just feel when you use it. I'm definitely looking forward to continuing to use this cleanser.

May Coop Raw Sauce Mini
40ml | This gentle toner, emulsion and essence in one intensively hydrates and nourishes the skin. What makes Raw Sauce special is that it is made with 93% maple tree sap, skin-nourishing fructan powder, and Asian herbal and fruit extracts to achieve healthier looking skin. Suitable for all skin types.

The interesting thing about this toner (plus emulsion, plus essence) is that instead of water as the main ingredient, it uses Sugar Maple Sap, which is intended to be a humectant and aid in absorption. It also contains anti-oxidant rich ingredients and extracts to nourish and promote radiance. I'm absolutely all about really nourishing KBeauty toners and this is one product that I've heard really, really great things about, so it was really topping the list for me of products I was excited to try out in this kit.

The texture of this product is definitely the thicker than water, thinner than gel type of consistency that I really only see from Asian toners. I actually prefer to apply this with my fingers and sort of press it into the skin rather than waste product applying it with a cotton pad. So far I think this is a really lovely little hydrating toner and I'm excited to keep trying it to see how the results fare.

Urang True Rose Repair Essence
50ml | Great for all skin types, Urang True Rose Repair Essence delivers long-lasting hydration and nourishment with the power of nature’s wonder flower. The serum-like texture glides over and absorbs quickly to intensely hydrate for a glowing complexion. Recommended for all skin types.

Urang, which stands for Ultimate Radiance And Natural Glow is actually the one brand in this that I hadn't really heard much about, but I'm still pretty excited to use this product. I do actually use rose water products to calm my skin when I'm feeling sensitized or irritated and I've had really good results with it, so I love that it's the first ingredient in this. It's also packed full of different extracts - including the much hyped (and science backed) Centella Asiatica, which really made this an essence I was interested in giving a go!

You know how there are some rose products that have a cheap perfume kind of vibe? This is definitely not one of those products. The rose in this smells expensive and this definitely feels like a luxurious experience when applying. It's quite a watery gel texture that feels really cooling and soothing on application. Again, looking forward to continuing to use this.

Tov Camellia Wrinkle Free Eye Solution
12g | Shea butter and macadamia nut oil create a skin-friendly structure to help penetrate active ingredients into the skin. Elastomer gel absorbs oil much more and fills in the lines under the eyes and covers up wrinkles. Suitable for all skin types.

I've actually been really finding that a thicker, richer eye cream is what I'm drawn to lately and this arrived literally on the day when I used the very last of another Korean eye cream that was similarly thick and rich under my eyes so I was really excited about this. Another thing that really interests me about this eye cream is the application method, with the little pump tip applicator to dispense and apply the product.

This baby is THICK and rich and really, really hydrating. So far, I generally prefer to use this at night because as much as I love a rich eye cream for day, I feel like this one is a little bit too much moisture under makeup. But really, it's a bit of a stunner as far as the texture is concerned and I'm looking forward to continuing to test it out.

May Coop Raw Moisturizer
50ml | The Raw Moisturizer is a unique formula moisturizer that contains a powerful combination of 70% maple tree sap, aloe, baobab tree and cactus extracts that easily absorb into the skin. Leaves skin feeling deeply hydrated and smooth. Suitable for all skin types.

Like the May Coop Raw Sauce, the Raw Moisturizer uses Maple Tree Sap, a humectant, as its main ingredient instead of water. It also contains aloe, which is great for soothing and hydrating the skin, baobab tree, which is packed full of antioxidants and nutrients, and cactus extract, which contains vitamins E & K as well as nourishing fatty acids. Overall, I love the ingredient choices for this because they are diversely nourishing, soothing and not too heavy.

My skin hasn't always loved KBeauty creams, but based on the ingredients in this one I was really, really excited to give it a go. The texture of this is really kind of like a really rich gel cream. There's a lightness to it and it melts really quickly into the skin, but it packs a serious punch of hydration and immediately gives my skin and bouncy, healthy and glowy look. Thus far, after using this every day for about a week, I haven't seen any of the ill effects that I've seen from other KBeauty creams, but I'll keep you posted in a future full review!

Touch In Sol No Poreblem Primer
30ml | No Poreblem Primer provides seamless coverage for concealing pores and uneven skin tone, while creating an invisible layer that acts as a barrier to outside elements. It leaves skin velvety, smooth, and fresh—and completely prepped for flawless makeup application. Suitable for all skin types.

Probably the most hyped product in this box - thanks to its availability at Sephora, this was actually probably the least exciting for me in this whole set. Don't get me wrong, I never thought it was a bad product or anything, but I was personally more excited about everything else. Still, this primer promises to give a smooth, poreless canvas for makeup and I'd heard a lot of good things about it from people all over the internet, so I was eager to give it a go.

I've only used this a couple of times and with a couple of different foundations, so this is truly a first impression of this product, but I do think it's pretty solid. I didn't have any issues with it balling up the way I have with some other silicone based primers, and I found that when I pressed it into the skin where my pores are their worst I did definitely see a difference in the overall smoothness of my skin. I'll keep testing this out with different foundations and let you guys know my full thoughts in a future review!

Urang Vitamin Oil Serum
30ml | Rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids, Urang Vitamin Oil Serum is a lightweight yet powerful blend of oils that target signs of aging. The main ingredients, jojoba and rosehip oils, are packed with linolenic acids, vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin B-carotene, and vitamin E that penetrate deeply and quickly to nourish and repair skin. Recommended for sensitive skin types.

This was by far one of the most exciting products in the box for me because I absolutely love a good oil blend for my skin and I've seen incredibly beautiful results from using them as a part of my night time routine. I'm particularly happy with this one since the main carrier oils are Jojoba, which is very well absorbed by the skin and is high in fatty acids, and Rosehip Seed, which has antioxidant properties and is also high in fatty acids. Both Jojoba and Rosehip Seed oils are staples in my beauty routine already because they really, really work for me. It also contains essential oils, which... I feel a couple of ways about and would recommend avoiding if you have sensitive skin or a skin condition like eczema or rosacea, but I personally don't mind them.

This is definitely a night time oil for me because it's very rich and gives me that shiny look to the skin that I'm obsessed with at night and terrified of during the day. So far I've found it to be quite moisturizing and when I use it, I've had some really good skin days. This is definitely one that I'll have to use for a while before I form an opinion about it, but so far I'm pretty excited.

IWLT All-In-One Concentrate Treatment Mask
2 Masks | A treatment mask that contains pearl powder, Vitamin C, and niacinamide that hydrates and visibly brightens the uneven skin tone. The mask sheet is made from tightly woven microfiber fabric that perfectly adheres to the skin and supplies maximum nutrients. Recommended for all skin types.

I love love love a sheet mask and was thrilled to find two of these in the box (only one is listed, so I'm not sure if it's a mistake or what) and couldn't wait to get it on my face. Though I never expect more than some hydration and maybe a little bit of brightening from a sheet mask, I have found that some of the higher end sheet masks I've used have been those quick fix type of products to really give me a good skin day when I need it, and I was hoping for that with this one since it contains that pearl powder, Vitamin C and niacinamide.

This mask is very saturated with a sort of milky essence, a little bit thicker and not as clear as a lot of the masks I use. The mask itself fit really beautifully and clung onto the skin really well while I wore it (and I did do a walking around the house and then sitting upright test to see if it slipped and it had minimal slippage.) I was really impressed with how much essence was left behind on my skin when I removed the mask and I gently patted it into the skin and then just sort of left it there to absorb... and then entirely forgot to do the rest of my skin care routine. So, of course, colour my surprised when I woke up the next day with SUPER hydrated, plump skin that looked so great that I skipped the foundation entirely. I have a feeling I'll want to hoard the second mask, but I will make myself do it and then do a full review!

Like I said, this isn't a review of the specific products, but I would definitely recommend this based on first impressions, the reputations of the included products, and the comprehensive skin care routine that you get in this kit!

The Case Full Of Seoul is available in Canada exclusively at Costco - I believe it will be in stores as well, but it's currently available online - and it retails for $159.99CAD. The price may seem like a lot, but it's actually a really solid value for what you're getting in this kit. I struggled to find sites listing these products in Canadian dollars, but when I did the math with USD list prices and the exchange rate, it was about a $300CAD value!

Thanks for reading!
