MANI MONDAY: Mixed Foil Flake Space Themed Nails
Happy Monday! I'm super excited about our #CBBxManiMonday theme for March - Blue & Green! I'm definitely going to be getting into some green, some of my favorite polishes and nail art looks are all about the green, but this week I had a gorgeous blue polish that I wanted to reach for so I'm starting with blue. I had an idea percolating in my head all weekend that I really, really wanted to try. It wasn't something I'd ever seen before and I didn't know how it would work, but I really wanted to play in it. Ultimately, I feel like I sort of ran out of time to get all the way to where I wanted this mani to be, but I'm about ¾ happy with it....

When I first started this mani, I had planned on having all of my nails blue, so I applied one coat of Dimension Nails Ethical*, which is a gorgeous primary blue créme shade that's fully, fully, fully opaque in one coat. Seriously, the Dimension Nails créme formula is INCREDIBLE. (Ultimately, after I decided that I needed an accent nail in another colour, I settled on Glam Polish Bride Of Frankenstein, which is a stunning polish, because I feel like it picked up on the pink foil on the rest of my nails. But I did that at the end and I don't love how it turned out and I'm a little bit salty about it. Ahem.)
What I really wanted to try was sort of making a glitter mix, but with the really finely textured foil flakes from NailStuff.ca. I've used a lot of iridescent and chameleon flakes, but what I really wanted was to mix opaque, monochrome flakes so that I could get an interesting overall texture - sort of like an indie polish that's packed with different colours of flakes. I used the end of a cuticle tool to scoop up a small amount of the NailStuff.ca Pink, Silver, Blue and Holographic Flakes* and then used an orange wood stick to mix them together. To apply them to the nail, I used foil glue and my clear stamper and just kind of whacked 'em on top of the blue cream base.
Immediately, the look on the nail reminded me of a galaxy and I knew that I wanted to ground and break up the base with some crisp white stamping, so the BeautyBigBang BBBXL-054 Stamping Plate was perfect. I chose two images that I thought worked and alternated them on the nails.
As ever, I finished with a generous coat of Seche Vive Quick Dry Top Coat and voila!

I feel like this is one those instances where I ALMOST love this mani, but I'm so in love with how the blue nails with the mixed flakes look that the plain accent nail is sort of driving me crazy and I'm hit with a whole bunch of ideas of what else I could have done. BUT such is life, I suppose. Like I said, I love ¾ of this mani!
