REVIEW: AVON Cashmere Complexion Longwear Foundation & Concealer

by - August 13, 2020

I have to admit, the state of 2020 has meant that even though I've still been getting up and going to work this entire time, I've more often than not been skipping makeup in a way that I haven't in years.  Because of that, getting out this review has taken a little bit longer than I intended. That said, when I've been reaching for foundation and concealer recently (admittedly, the latter more than the former) the Avon Cashmere Complexion Foundation & Concealer* have been the ones I've been using, so I've definitely given a solid test.

As soon as I saw that Avon was releasing these products, I was very, very interested and crossing my fingers that they were going to show up on my doorstep - and they did! Admittedly, I am a sucker for the word Cashmere and will happily try pretty much anything with it in the name - which I realize just makes me a sucker for marketing, but alas, it's the truth. Anyway, I was very eager to try these out and ultimately I've been pretty impressed, but in ways that have actually really surprised me.

Avon Cashmere Complexion Longwear Foundation*
Get stunning cashmere-soft skin that looks as effortlessly beautiful as you do - in your perfect shade. 24-hour comfortable wear. Skin-hugging formula. Cushiony doe-foot applicator for easy, precise application. Soft-focus matte finish.

Can we just take a moment for the packaging? I love the way that Avon has started branding their newer products and I feel like they've really embraced a more modern feel to everything, but this might be my favorite. With the frosted glass bottle and the really simple text, it just feels like a step up for them overall. It also has the enormous doe foot that makes slapping my foundation on in the morning really, really easy. Really, really like the aesthetic and practical choices that they made with this foundation, I think they're really thoughtful and well chosen.

When it comes to the formula, I would personally call this a sort of natural matte finish - definitely none of that dry, chalky matte finish here. It's kind of hard to explain, but I feel like my skin still somehow looks luminous when I use this even though it definitely isn't a dewy foundation. As far as coverage, I would say that it's a light to medium coverage that does a good job of evening out your complexion but still lets some of your skin show through for a more natural look. It's incredibly easy and quick to blend in with my makeup sponge as well, which makes application of this foundation kind of dreamy for me. I actually think that this is the kind of matte foundation that dry and more mature skin types are going to really love because of that natural matte texture and the fact that it definitely maintains hydration and doesn't dry out throughout the day.

I feel like my obsession with concealer is pretty obvious on this blog, though I realized when I started trying this that it had been a while since I stepped out of my favorites and tried something new - and this one immediately impressed me and became a staple. Like the foundation, it has a modern packaging design with a frosted finish and simple branding, but unlike the foundation this one skipped the huge applicator that seems to have become the standard and went for something smaller and much more precise - something that I think was actually a really, really good choice.

Being that super dense, high coverage concealers have become the thing in the past few years, I think I had forgotten just how much I like a more lighweight, medium coverage concealer that blends really seamlessly and easily and naturally under my eyes. That's exactly how I would describe this concealer. It's a more natural coverage, incredibly easy to blend, and sits in a really sweet spot where it does have that natural matte finish, but it's not dry or particularly creasey on me. Because, like I said earlier, I haven't been wearing a lot of makeup over the past several months, this has actually become a must have for me because it's what I throw on (along with mascara and a little brow pencil) to wake up my face a little bit when I'm not doing a full face. Again, I think this is going to be a fantastic choice for drier and more mature skin types.

As you can see here, the size difference between the foundation and concealer applicators is immense - and kind of perfect. The huge doe foot applicator on the foundation makes it really easy to just throw some swipes over my face before blending while the smaller, flat doe foot of the concealer makes it easy to add a couple of dots underneath the eyes.

I have to say that while both of these had surprising formulas for me - not what I was expecting, that is - I've ended up really enjoying both of them and I think that they'll really be a hit with a lot of people, but especially dry or mature skin tones who generally have to stay away from matte foundations I think will really, really love this. I'm personally expecting that this pairing will be one that I continue to reach for into fall, when inevitably my love for fall makeup will trump my tired bones and I'll get back into wearing a full face most days.
