12 NAILS OF HALLOWEEN: Creepy Spider Silhouette Smoosh Mani
I swear, I am so excited for Spooky Season this year and the nail art is flowing for this year's 12 Nails Of Halloween! I might be a broken record, but it's really true when I tell you that there are polishes that I generally only pull out at certain times of year - they just fit. Last year, I used two of the Color Club Matteified Metallics shades as the base for my Alternating Gradient Bats Nails and I knew that I wanted to pull them out again for this Halloween, but I wanted to find a way to use them differently. These polishes are actually available in store at Canadian Walmarts now, which makes me even more excited to share them because I know people can struggle to find some of the Color Club polishes I love to use here on the blog locally. I added one more polish from the collection to the mix for this mani and I love the result!

Purple and green will forever be one of my favorite colour pairings, period, but I specifically find it fantastic for Halloween nails. I think specifically that the tones of the purple and green from this collection work particularly well at this time of year, which is why I like to reach for them. I decided to add a little bit more dimension to this mani by adding the rose gold shade to the mix, because it has a really cool olive shift that I thought would work well.
I kept the smoosh simple on this one, just adding dots of the polish to my stamper head and then pouncing it onto the nail until I got the blend that I was looking for - smoothly blended without blotches or muddiness. As always, I cleaned up the excess polish with a clean up brush dipped in acetone, removed my cuticle barrier, and then went back in with the brush to really crisp up the edges.
I actually had no idea what I was going to do next - this mani was more of a seat-of-my-pants type of a situation, and I really, really surprised myself by reaching for the BeautyBigBang 04 Stamping Plate and using this specific image, which I had never really been able to get to work in a satisfying way up until this point. Luckily, the What's Up Nails Neither Noir Stamping Polish (my new absolute must have favorite) came through for me and gave me a really, really solid and intensely black pick up. I alternated rotating the image on the nails, which I think gives the mani a little bit more interest.
To finish, I sealed in my stamping with water based top coat (definitely don't want to ruin this really crisp design with smudging) and then finished with a generous coat of glossy, quick dry top coat and voila!

I really love how this turned out and I love that I finally got an opportunity to use this image in a way I'm really happy with. I think that the design of this image is really great and I don't think I realized it until I sort of randomly decided to try it for this mani. That's definitely one thing I love about pulling out old stamping plates - sometimes you get inspired to try things you'd never considered before.
Be sure to check back every Monday, Wednesday and Friday leading up to Halloween for the continuation of 12 Nails Of Halloween, where I will be featuring all of my Halloween themed nail art looks for this year! And if you're looking for more inspiration, check out last year's 12 Nails Of Halloween as well!
