NAIL ART: Warm Golden Fall Leaves Nails

by - September 18, 2020

I feel like the inclination for fall nails can be to go for those deep, vampy shades that we all know and love - just me? - but I feel like there's also room for soft, warm shades that evoke the feeling of falling leaves. For this mani, that's the vibe I wanted to go with so I paired a really soft base with some super warm toned golden shades for the stamping and I think it manages to very much feel like fall without any of that vampiness that we generally expect from fall mani's.

For this mani, I started with 3 coats of Color Club's No Ordinary Love - which I chose because I was looking for an almost white shade with a warm undertone and it was the only one I had and definitley not because I like this polish at all. I usually love Color Club polishes, but this one is actually a bit of a nightmare to work with and ended up making finishing this mani a pain in the ass. But still, it was the right shade and the subtle gold shimmer in the base is kind of dreamy for the end result. If anyone has recommendations for a shade like this in a formula that's pleasant to work with, I'd definitely appreciate them in the comments!

For the stamping, I really wanted to have some dimension to the leaves to really give that feeling of them changing, so I went with three really warm toned stamping polishes and blended them together on the plate to get this result. I used a really warm toned gold, a rich chocolate brown, and a sort of burnt orange shade and ultimately the gold really dominated but the two deeper tones helped to add that dimension. (Check out my tutorial video over on @pblnails to see how I blended them on the plate.)

The blended colours also help to take away from the fact that I'm using the same image on all of my nails, making each one just a little bit unique, which I always love.

To finish, I sealed in my stamping first with a water based top coat and then followed with a quick dry glossy top coat to add shine, volume and strength. And voila!

I guess the takeaway here really is that you can get a distinctly fall look without having to go too vampy with it - if that's not your thing. It's kind of my thing, but in the end I really do love how this mani turned out.
