CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Frosty Blue Layered Snowflake Nails

by - December 24, 2020

This might seem a little bit weird, but I'd say it's a pretty solid look into how my brain works: I got the idea for this mani while I was lying in the bathtub and I immediately got out of the tub, got dressed, and went to put it on my nails. It actually came to me like a lightbulb and I knew exactly what products I was going to use and exactly how it was going to look in the end and I really didn't change anything from the original idea when I put it on my nails. I love snowflake nail art for the holidays (in case that wasn't already obvious) and I actually picked up one of the stamping polishes I used in this mani specifically with snowflakes in mind, so I guess this was sort of already in my head.

So, without further ado, keep reading to check out my final holiday mani of 2020!

As the base for this mani, I knew I had to use Starrily's Etoile*. In my opinion, this is just about the perfect winter blue shade. It's a really soft baby blue créme with a hint of a grey undertone and what really drives home the iciness of it is that it's just packed full of holo flakes. I find that the holo ends up being pretty subtle in this formula and you don't get a ton of rainbows, but instead you get this really pretty, almost snowy look that has these subtle glints when it hits the light. Application takes a little bit of patience with this one, but the end result is just a stunner. For this mani, I applied two coats and let them dry completely.

I ended up going with two different plates for this mani, but I think they paired really well together. I started by applying the scattered snowflake image from the BP-Christmas-L006 Stamping Plate to all of my nails using white stamping polish. This layer was really intended to be quite subtle and act as sort of a textured base for the shimmery blue stamping that would come next. Next, for all but my ring finger, I grabbed individual snowflakes from that same image and applied them sparingly for that really scattered look on those nails.

For my accent nail, I grabbed for the What's Up Nails B022 Stamping Plate because I really wanted to use the Merry Christmas image that's surrounded by snowflakes. I love this image and the text is just the right size for my nails, which is amazing. Because I used a metallic stamping polish, the light obscures it a little bit in pictures, but in person it's pretty perfect.

To finish, I first applied a water based top coat to seal in my stamping and then followed with a quick dry glossy top coat for shine and voila!
