CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Graphic Green Color Block Snowflake Nails

by - December 06, 2020

More and more this year, when I sit down to put together ideas for holiday themed nail art, I'm finding that I've settled a lot more into my own personal style and I think today's 12 Nails Of Christmas offering is very much that. As soon as I looked at this stamping image, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it and I went through several different colour pairings in my head before I settled on green. Because... me? I love green polish and the holidays are usually the perfect time to reach for them.

Anyway, keep reading to take a closer look and see how I put this mani together!

Like I said, choosing these two base polishes was a bit of a process, but ultimately I decided to pair them because they're very different shades of green but they both contain really strongly visible golden shifty flakes. I don't think they're the same flakes, but they just felt like they would pair better. I decided to use KBShimmer's Water Relief as my base polish since it was the lighter of the two and I applied two coats to all of my nails to start off this mani.

For the stamping, I picked up the image using this champagne gold stamping polish and then filled in the side of the image that had the bulk of the snowflakes on it with Cadillacquer's Enchanted Forest. I had to sort of guestimate how much I was going to need to fill in with the darker green polish, so I erred on the side of a lot and it worked out pretty well.

Once the decals were dry to the touch but still squishy, I applied cuticle barrier and then a thin coat of Orly Bonder Basecoat to give the decals something to stick to and let it dry down for about a minute before transferring the decals. Clean up can be a little bit tricky, but I like to go in with a cuticle tool to trim as much of the decal as I can before peeling the cuticle barrier and then go in with a cleanup brush an acetone to get any stragglers and it works pretty well.

To finish, I sealed in the design with a coat of water based top coat and then followed with a quick drying glossy top coat for shine and voila!

Can we just take a moment to acknowledge that flakie polishes are just... so gorgeous? In the past couple of years I feel like everyone has sort of fallen in love with gorgeous flakies when it comes to indie polishes (and some great, occasional mainstream polishes as well). For me, when I'm looking at picking up indie polishes for my collection these days, it's all about the flakies, so I love that I was able to pair two really gorgeous flakies for this mani.

Just a reminder to be sure to check back here very day up until Christmas Eve for new Holiday/Winter themed nail art designs - I'm having so much fun with this - and be sure to head over to @pblnails and follow me there for video tutorials for all of these mani's!

Thanks for reading!
