CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Red & Green Ugly Sweater Nails
When I picked up the H La Cosedora Ugly Sweater Bundle, I knew I was going to have to do some kind of sweater mani with it, and I knew that I wanted to keep it in the realm of "ugly" sweater rather than the more classic Fair Isle style I've done previously. There was definitely a little bit of brain wracking to figure it out, but ultimately I knew exactly what I wanted to do and because the H La Cosedora plates are almost certainly designed with reverse stamping of the smaller images intended, I wanted to pair white, red and green for what I think is a pretty solid and on the nose "Ugly Sweater" design.

I will admit that I 100% bought the Jelly Belly + Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in French Vanilla with an eye on using it over this holiday season. I continue to not be someone who at all enjoys working with opaque white polishes as bases for nail polish and I will absolutely admit that I didn't enjoy working with this one either, but the addition of a sprinkling of really fine black glitters in this otherwise super opaque white polish just made it kind of perfect for what I want to do with this mani. I applied two not so easy coats to get full coverage to all of my nails.
For the stamping, I obviously did two distinctly different styles. First, for my first and pinkie fingers, I alternated between red and green polish to create the sort of ugly sweater stripe design that we all know so well. This plate actually has a lot of different options for lines of design that you can use, so I just started at the base of my nail and chose different strips until I had filled each nail with a sweater design. For my middle two fingers, I wanted two images that were going to make sense together both in theme and overall style, so I chose the Christmas Tree for my ring finger and the stack of presents for my middle finger, using a really fine nail art brush to fill them in and then transferring them to the nail straight from my stamper using a sticky base coat to grab the image.
Once I was happy with the design, I sealed everything in with a layer of water based top coat and finished with a quick dry matte top coat to take down the shine and really smooth everything out. And voila!

I feel like this is just the type of design that this plate is perfect for and really underscores how versatile this plate actually is. I'm still getting a hang of working with the acrylic plate and the way that it's etched and I definitely think there's a learning curve, but these images are so cute and so unique that I've definitely decided that I want to try more of her products!
Almost there! I can't believe it's almost Christmas Eve and I've only got two more mani's to go in this marathon of winter and holiday themed nail art. Be sure to check back for my last two mani's and click here if you wanna check out of this year's holiday nail art!
