NAIL ART: Simple Teal Unicorn Skin Grunge Nails

by - May 12, 2021

Hey guys! It feels to me like 2021 is definitely shaping up to be the year of the abstract nail art for me - so many of my favorite designs this year are definitely slotted firmly into that category. When I sat down to do these nails, I will admit I was in a bit of a state and this was therapy for me, so I wanted to keep the colors soothing and the design simple and pleasing in its placement. My brain is... sometimes a very interesting place and how I place nail art designs is actually really, really specific to me. Neurodivergence, am I right?

I don't know about you, but for me one of those most soothing colours is this sort of soft, beachy teal shade. A recent (and very necessary, based on my obsession with sea turtles) addition to my collection is Loggerhead Sea Turtle from Dimension Nails (kindly gifted to me from NailStuff.ca). If you haven't out the Dimension Nails créme polishes yet, you are missing out. They absolutely have one of the best créme formulas I've ever tried with consistently super pigmented, smooth and dreamy to work with formulas. Honestly, they're a must try. I wanted to add a little bit of texture and interest to the base, so I added on layer of Holo Taco Solar Unicorn Skin for a really subtle, shifty texture.

For the stamping, I went back and forth before I settled on some simple layered texture. The Whats Up Nails A020 Floralize Your Texture Stamping Plate is a really, really great plate to have in your collection if you want to try out some stamped abstract designs. I've used it a few times at this point, but I really feel like I haven't even scratched the surface of what I can do with it. For this mani, I used the same two images on all of my nails - a denser swipe design in white and then this more loose, almost stringy image in a metallic teal shade - and placed the images uniquely on each nail with way too much focus on what was going to be the most satisfying to me.

Once I was happy with the stamping, I sealed it in with a water based top coat and then finished with a layer of quick dry matte top coat and voila!

I'm absolutely one of those people with a really, really strong appreciation for things that are satisfying and for me, that's really what this mani gives me. The colors are soft and soothing in nature and I really, really enjoy the placement of the design. It's simple and a part of me felt like I needed to add more, but ultimately I feel like the simplicity of it is what really gives it impact and having added anything else would have made it too much.

Anyway, I feel like this post is a significant look into how my brain functions... which is unique.

Thanks for reading!
