NAIL ART: Speckled Color Block Robin Egg Nails

by - May 14, 2021

Every once in a while, I find that I've let my nails get too long and my dexterity is starting to be impacted, so it's time to give them a good trim (and by trim, I do mean file because I don't cut my finger nails ever anymore) to take off some length. Of course, after having them so long for so long, looking down at them they almost start to feel like shorties (which is clearly not actual, but my brain decides things that are not actual all the time) and I really just needed to do something simple and cute, nail art wise. So this is what I came up with!

A polish called Snow Globe might not be the obvious choice for a spring mani, but this polish from ILNP's last holiday collection is just... dreamy and sort of perfect for the spring with this fresh pastel blue color and the addition of the gold flakes and holo. It's definitely one of those polishes that really transitions well from winter to spring and into summer pretty easily and it's a pretty dreamy formula, so I went with it. For this mani, I applied two coats for full opacity to all of my nails as my base.

I've had my eye on this image from the Whats Up Nails B058 nailsandtowel collaboration plate for a while now, but it occurred to me to just use this one portion of it to create this sort of color block look. To reference the gold flakes in the base polish, I went with a gold stamping polish and used a white cream polish to fill in the image and keep everything soft even though the contrast is actually pretty strong. While the base was still a little bit tacky, I transferred the image to the nail. As far as placement, I placed it differently on each nail, but as with all of my mani's like this there is a method to the madness and I personally find the placement really satisfying.

Once I was happy with the stamping and had cleaned up the edges, I sealed it in with a layer of water based top coat and then finished with a generous coat of quick dry glossy top coat for shine and volume and voila!

Ultimately I'm really, really happy with how this mani turned out and I'm glad that I just sort of rolled with it and didn't try to do too much. I think this very simple and clean design is just what I needed after shortening my nails so much and I love the way it turned out.
