CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Cozy Snowy Bird & Berries Nails

by - December 20, 2021

I have to say, I'm so swooningly in love with today's mani that I'm thrilled to have it be my last #CBBxManiMonday of the holiday season. Like a lot of what I've shared over the course of this month, it isn't necessarily on-the-nose with the Christmasiness, but I do think it definitely brings the vibes. I absolutely love both the base polish as well as the stamping plate that I used for this mani and I'm absolutely thrilled to share it with you!

Literally the second I saw swatch photos of Cardigan from Cuticula, I absolutely had to have it. I even went out of my way to order from a collab (The Charity Box) I had never ordered from and after shipping was factored in it definitely ended up being the most expensive polish in my collection... but I don't have a single regret! I mean... If ever there was a polish that just screamed me, it's this one. I could honestly go on forever about how much and why I love this polish, but since it isn't available anymore that feels a little bit mean. I will say, though, that as much as I managed to avoid indie polish collabs for actual years, now that I've been participating I really have found some of my absolute ride-or-die favorite polishes in them.

For this mani, I applied two coats of Cardigan to all of my nails and let them dry down completely while I worked on my reverse stamping.

To do the reverse stamping, I started by picking up the image using black stamping polish. I did this twice, on two different stampers, and on the second one I removed the bird using a dotting tool so that I just had the berries image on the stamper. Next, I used a dotting tool and a 4mm nail art brush to fill in the image using really pigmented red, white and taupe polishes and then set them aside until they were dry to the touch but still somewhat flexible. Once I was ready to transfer the images, I applied a thin layer of sticky base coat to my nails and let that dry for about a minute or so until it was tacky and then transferred straight from the stamper to the nails.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I sealed in the nail art with a water based top coat and then followed by applying a matte top coat to all of my nails to bring down the shine and give a sort of velvety, vintage look to the design. And voila!

I did do a mani using these stamping images last Christmas and I didn't want to repeat them too closely, so I knew I had to make some adjustments to the overall design as far as placement and shade choices, and I think that worked out really well. Where last year's had a sort of high contrast playfulness to it, I think this mani definitely brings more of a vintage vibe and I'm kind of obsessed with it.

We're in the home stretch!
