CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Festive Red & White Reindeer Nails

by - December 19, 2021

When it comes to looking for inspiration for nail art, especially in a situation like this of 24 themed mani's all in a row, I spend a lot of time looking at the gorgeous work that professional nail techs do. Because I work generally with traditional nail polish, a lot of the things that the pro's are doing with gel and acrylic are just not things that I can recreate, but I can definitely take inspiration. One thing that I love that I see from professionals a lot is when every nail is different but there's an overall cohesive vibe that makes the whole thing work. Today's many is definitely drawing on that inspiration within my own sort of personal style and vibe.

Going into this mani, I knew that I wanted the main color story to be red and white and that I wanted a pop of glitter, but that's really about all I had in mind when I sat down. I started by choosing my base colours. First, I grabbed for a red jelly with red metallic glitter in it for a pop and applied two coats to my pinkie and thumb - I mostly tend to match those two nails in most of my designs. Next, I had the idea to do a red créme that would feel very similar to the glitter, so I grabbed for a a rich, deep red with neutral undertones and applied two coats of that to my first finger. Finally, I wanted to add some bright white so I actually grabbed a polish that I recently modified myself trying to dupe one of my all time favorite polishes. I didn't quite get there on the dupe front, but it is really pretty all on its own, so I applied three coats of a milky sheer white crelly with silver flakes to my middle two fingers.

As I said, I wanted every nail (other than my thumb, which totally doesn't count in my mind) to be at least somewhat different, but to also be cohesive as an overall design. I knew that I wanted to add a simple plaid image to the red créme nail, so I went in with a really simple, fairly chunky image and applied that in black. For my middle two fingers, I wanted to add some texture to that sheer background, so I applied the same full coverage image to both of them in white stamping polish. Finally, because I've wanted to use this reindeer image for SO LONG, I decided to fill it in with a neutral medium gray créme and apply that to my ring finger. I removed the nose part with a dotting tool before filling it in so that once it was transferred to the nail I could stamp it in red and then dab some of the red glitter polish from my pinkie and thumb onto the nose for the full Rudolph effect.

Once I was happy with the overall design, I sealed in my stamping with a nail art top coat and then followed with a quick dry glossy top coat to all of my nails for shine and volume. And voila!

I really love how this turned out and I genuinely think this reindeer stamping image is one of the all time best ones featured on a Christmas plate. I've seen it used so many times by different nail artists, but it's super versatile on top of being super adorable, so it always feels fresh and exciting. It really is the sole reason that I picked up this stamping plate and I will never regret the purchase. Highly recommend.
