NAIL ART: Hot Pink & Black Optical Illusion Nails

by - June 29, 2022

THIS POST IS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PUEEN COSMETICS.

When I first started out in nail art, I was so incredibly drawn to stamping that it really isn't at all a surprise that it became my personal favorite nail art technique and the one I'm most excited to share. I do know, though, that it can feel inaccessible and difficult if you've never done it before. I completely understand and I've absolutely been there. It also occurred to me that sometimes my somewhat maximalist approach to stamping might not help, so for today's nail art design I decided to keep it really simple and crisp because I think this is exactly the type of mani that just about anyone could start out with and the Pueen stamping products are affordable and available on Amazon easily for someone just starting out.

The inspiration for this mani definitely started with this stamping image, which is a sort of choppy, trippy spiral optical illusion image that just screamed for a bold color combo to me. I decided to go with a super vibrant hot pink jelly packed full of flakies from Cirque Colors as my base for this mani. The pairing of hot pink and black has such a specific vibe to me - your sort of 00s Hot Topic scene kid kind of vibe, really, which holds a ton of nostalgia for me - and using that pairing with this image just felt like it would work.

For this mani, I applied 2 coats of Cirque Colors' Bon Bon to all of my nails as my base.

I have to say, I've been really, really impressed with the Pueen stamping polish in 805 Black Jack since I've been using it. At this point I am INCREDIBLY picky about black stamping polish and if it isn't super densely pigmented with crisp, clean pickup then I'm not going to reach for it, and this one hits all of the right marks for me so I knew it would work brilliantly for this mani. Like I said, I wanted to make this mani really accessible, so I kept it really simple with one image picked up in black and applied to all of my nails. Unlike a lot of my designs, there really was no need for me to alternate the direction of placement because the image was the same in either direction, so I just tried my best to keep the center of the spiral near the center of my nail.

Once I was finished my stamping, I sealed it in with a nail art top coat and followed with a generous layer of quick dry glossy top coat. And voila!

When I was first starting out in nail art, this was exactly the type of mani that got me excited about trying out stamping and I really think it's a great option for beginners but also a solid go to for more experienced stampers. If you're just starting out in stamping or even just looking to try out Pueen for the first time, I actually think their starter kits are a great option. There are a couple of options that contain 1 stamping plate, a stamper and scraper, and stamping polishes in Black and White (both of which are really good quality), which is basically everything you need when you're just getting started in stamping.

Obviously I partnered with Pueen for this post, but I absolutely would not recommend something that isn't worth trying out and I highly recommend these ones. I'm even tempted to buy backups of the black and white stamping polishes for my own collection because they perform so well for me. Amazon has a wide selection of Pueen products available with Prime delivery, so definitely check them out if you're interested!
