Whenever I'm doing multiple mani's in the same theme - in this case, Valentine's Day! - I tend to find myself wanting to do something that suits the theme, but is maybe a bit non-traditional. For today's mani, that translated into eschewing all of the traditional pink and red vibes and instead going with a black and white look. In the end, I think this could also be a good vibe for your Galentine's Day or anti-Valentine's Day vibes, if you know what I mean.

While I'm not generally much of a pink and adorable kind of girl, there's something about Valentine's Day that just makes me go all in, so I grabbed a super bright pink polish and a bubbly hearts stamping image and I just went for it!

When I sat down to do today's mani, I was in the mood for high contrast. I wanted a rich, deep, blackened base polish paired with crisp, bright white stamping in a really unfussy design. Now, admittedly, I suspect there are probably a lot of people whose definition of unfussy differs from mine, since I've become a bit of a maximalist when it comes to nail art, but for me this is definitely an unfussy design.

One thing that I'm trying to teach myself as I finally sort of settle into nail art - until this point, I've still felt very much like I'm still learning, but I'm settling more into a confidence that I know what I'm doing - is to lean into the simplicity sometimes. While my tendency is to throw the kitchen sink at my nails, I'm finding myself more and more drawn to much simpler designs. Of course, simplicity and Christmas don't exactly tend to go together, so I'm having to focus a little more and resist the urge to DO more, which is what I did with today's mani.

When I started plotting out my ideas for this year's marathon of Christmas nail art, a lot of the designs I was drawn to were the more abstract designs that have become so popular in the last couple of years. As much as I love the more on-the-nose Christmas designs, I think there's definitely something to be said for a more blobby abstract design at this time of year as well. While I'm not generally one for following trends when it comes to my nail art, I am also not entirely immune. Even though I think cherry red nails are a total classic and always in style at least to some degree, they've really been having a moment trendwise this fall and I've really been wanting to do a mani in red. When I saw someone do their version of this trend in an aura style, I knew that I wanted to do my own spin on that style and that's really what drove me to do this mani.

I might be a bit of a broken record here, but November is such a weird month for nail art. Sandwiched between Halloween and Christmas, it can be hard to find inspiration. That being said, the idea for this one sort of struck out of nowhere and I am OBSESSED with how it came together in the end. I feel like fall is a perfect time for a smoosh - though I couldn't actually tell you why that just feels like a given to me - and adding some really strong black stamping on top of it creates a beautiful fall design.

I think the trickiest thing when it comes to keeping nail art simple is finding that balance between simplicity and impact. I like even my simple designs to still have visual interest.

In the past couple of months, I've seen tons of different spotlight style nail designs with a bright center and dark edges, so for this mani I decided to pair that vibe with an acid green base and some spooky tree stamping and I think it turned out really cool.

It's one of those styles of nail art that has all of the versatility in the world to allow you to customize and really drive home  a seasonal vibe. I spent literal years wanting a stamping plate featuring mermaid scales because I loved the look of mermaid scale mani's, but it took me ages to get one. Now, luckily, I have a few different options, but this really basic one from the Pueen Nail Party 03 Stamping Plate* is definitely a favorite and one that I will often reach for when I want a classic mermaid scales mani. For this one, I wanted to go for a really soft, low contrast look, which is opposite of my usual technique, and I think it turned out really beautifully.

When I started thinking about nail art designs for the back half of summer, now that neon doesn't feel quite like the move to me as I stand in anticipation of fall like the very basic white girl I happen to be, one thing that stuck out for me was nature. I was just very drawn to the idea of putting together nail designs based on a nature theme for some reason. And, for me, on those rare occasions that I spend time out in nature (I am definitely an inside kid), one of my favorite things is looking up at the night sky, unimpeded by the lights of the city. And all of this is to say, today's mani is all about that starry, starry sky.

As soon as I saw this stamping image on the Pueen 72 Stamping Plate from the 24B Stamping Plate Collection, I immediately wanted it on my nails. It's such an amazing image and the size of it (it fills a whole small round plate) makes it super versatile and easy to use to create a full mani with each nail looking the same. Normally when I think florals, I lean towards pink and purple, but for this one something in my was just screaming for orange and yellow... so I went with it!
