NAIL ART: Periwinkle Abstract Dotted Loops Nails

by - February 27, 2023

I've gotten to the point in my collection where I will sometimes buy things I'm really excited about, but then it's either not the time or for some other reason I put it into my collection and forget about it. Over the weekend, I was reorganizing some stamping plates when I came upon the Hit The Bottle To Boldly Go Stamping Plate, which I was like... basically obsessed with getting my hands on when it was first released but didn't get a chance to use right away because of the holidays and... Well, you get it. It still had the blue plastic on it, so it was time to peel it off and put it to work.

Keep reading for more!

Full disclosure, the color story for this mani was pretty much entirely decided by the fact that I got it in my head that I want to do a sort of rainbow gradient in my feed right now and it's time to transition from purple to blue, so... Periwinkle has entered the chat! Also, one of my good nail polish friends just gifted me this polish from her destash when she was moving, so it was good to get to try it out. I really, really love this type of formula from Polished For Days, which is a sort of crelly packed with iridescent flakes with a sort of... hazy vibe to it, if that makes sense. Sadly, I believe this polish was a part of a collab and as such isn't available anymore, but I definitely recommend checking out some of the other similar formulas from the line.

For this mani, I started with two slightly thicker coats of Polished For Days' Bluebell as my base and I let those dry down before moving onto my stamping.

For the stamping, I knew I wanted to use this image that featured these sort of loops of dots. It's such a simple and even a little bit sparse image, but I loved the idea that I could really isolate and play with different parts of the image to make each nail different. I decided to go with a pale blue stamping polish instead of the white I had initially planned because I felt like it was just a hair softer and I liked that. For the middle two nails, I just applied the full image in opposing directions, but for my outer nails I ended up isolating smaller parts of the image and playing around with the direction and angle of placement to give each nail a unique design.

Once I was happy with my design, I sealed it in with a nail art top coat and then finished with a generous layer of glossy top coat. And voila!

I have to say I'm really happy with how this turned out - it's quite simple, really, and even a little bit sparse maybe but I think it really looks beautiful and packs a surprising amount of visual interest considering the simplicity.

Be sure to head over to Cosmetic Proof and See The World In PINK today for more #CBBxManiMonday nail art designs! Admittedly, I think I'm fudging the theme a little (a lot...) this week... but my brain wanted Periwinkle and so Periwinkle it is.

Thanks for reading!
