Recently on a bit of a whim, I picked up a couple of magnetic polishes from the Chinese brand Xeijayi. As soon as I swatched them out, I knew that I wanted to put together some version of this mani. I really, really love the way that cat eye gel polishes look when you mattify them, it gives them a really unique velvety look, so that's definitely what I was going for with this particular mani.

When I ordered this base polish, I was actually expecting it to be a bit more rose gold than it ended up being, but instead I would say it leans more coppery than rosy but distinctly gold. Either way, it really is a beautiful shade and I love the way it looks on the nails.

I started this mani by applying a peel off base coat, which I always do when I'm working with gel polishes, and I let that dry down completely before moving on. Next I did two coats of my magnetic polish, using the magnet around the edges of the nail to get the cat eye effect each time and curing between coats. 

Initially, I had planned on just using the full cover knit image on all of my nails, but in the end I decided that I wanted to add a little bit of something else so instead I decided to only partially stamp three of my nails and then add a border. For my middle finger and thumb, I applied the full cover image as normal. For the rest of my fingers, I applied the image only about half to two thirds of the nail. Next, I used the Whats Up Nails B048 Stamping Plate and picked up the second narrowest single line image and applied it right at the edge of the knit image to create a border.

Once I was happy with my design, I finished with a matte gel top coat to bring down the shine and give that velvety finish. And voila!

Now, I hate to be quite this millenial about it - but this just so very much makes me think of Gryffindor that in my mind this has officially become a holiday Hogwarts mani. Once you see it, you really can't unsee it, can you? And I'm not Gryffindor, but it still makes me grin for sure.
