What's in my purse? With mini reviews...

by - April 17, 2014

At some point I'm going to have to stop being surprised, but every time I switch purses I always find myself shocked at the sheer number of lip products that inevitably end up just living in the bottom of my purse. This morning all I had time to do was wash my face and throw on a little moisturizer before running out the door, so I was rooting around looking for something to liven up my lips and I decided to share a rundown of what's in my purse right now - from new things that I'm trying to the everyday staples that migrate from bag to bag no matter what.

The sad thing, I have to admit, is that this is actually a lot less lip products than I normally have in my bag.

Also, I'm sure it's glaringly obvious that I don't have any other makeup in my bag. The reason for this is that I actually keep an old Ipsy bag of my staples in my desk at work so that I'm not constantly lugging around eyes and face the way that I lug around lips. Well, that and the fact that I have a travel bag full of cosmetics that comes with me in my gym bag when I spend nights at my boyfriend's place. That's actually probably the real reason and maybe eventually we'll delve into the treasures that are in that bag.

For now, though, let's stay on track, shall we?

Without further adieu...

VICHY EAU THERMALE Thermal Spa Water (Travel Size)
Being that, by all accounts, this is just water in a can, I actually was skeptical to buy it even though the person who recommended it seemed to give it straight up Holy Grail status. I actually left it the first time I was looking at it at Shopper's and only picked it up after all the reviews I read after Googling it the next day told me that I absolutely had to try it. And I love it. And I have decided that it must be the some kind of magic water. No, really. For me with my pain in the ass dry skin, this just gives a nice pick me up every time I give my face a little mist. No scent, no offensive texture. It just makes my skin feel refreshed. I have a feeling that over the summer, me and my Eau Thermale are going to have a serious relationship.

Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Moisturizer
This is another product that I'm trying out on a recommendation, but I have to admit that it's kind of been getting ignored in favour of first argan oil and now my new Korean products. I have every intention of keeping up with trying this one, since A) I've heard good things, B) I definitely need a daytime moisturizer with a good SPF, and C) I'm all about anti-aging products at the moment. So hopefully me and this product can get to know each other better soon.

Aveeno Pure Renewal Dry Shampoo
This one had no recommendation, but I'm trying it on for size. Since a new dry shampoo seems to be coming out every week lately, I've been trying them out to see which ones really hit for me and there will undoubtedly be a post about them in the future. So far, this one is alright. I don't have any outright complaints about it, although I still don't think it holds up to my Batiste - which still has yet to be beaten in the standings.

Vitabath Heavenly Coconut Creme Frangrance Mist with Vitamin E
A while back there was a special display at Shoppers of the Vitabath Shower Gels that had these little bonus mists and I picked up a few. I'm actually a little bit obsessed with the Vitabath Shower Gels and use them all the time, but I keep this little mist in my purse for when my hair needs a little freshening as far as scent is concerned. This is not to say my hair gets rank or anything like that, but I like to have it around just for a little pick up.

The Body Shop Almond Hand & Nail Cream
Lately, I'm obsessed with all things almond scented - I think I said that when I hauled this actually, Thank You, L'Occitane - and I'm also a huge fan of hand creams. This one gets it done alright, but I don't think I'll repurchase in 100 years when I manage to get through the tube. I thought it would be the same texture as the Hemp one, but it definitely is not. It's not terrible though, I'll use it up.

Random Sassy Lady Tweezers from SALLY Beauty Supply
I got a few pairs of these ages ago when they were on sale for like $1 at SALLY. They get the job done and I seem to have them hanging out all over the place for various tweezer related emergencies. You know how it is.

And now onto the lips....

Bare English & Co Tea Infused Organic Lip Balm in Vanilla Coconut
I feel like there's a theme going here with the kinds of scents I like, but can you really blame me. I picked this up a while back at Rexall and I like it. It's not a revolutionary lip balm and I don't feel like I need to have a backup on hand for whenever I run out of this (Yes, that's a thing with me.) but I like it well enough and it keeps my lip moisturized. However it's no....

NIVEA Pure & Natural Milk & Honey Lip Balm
God I love this stuff. I love it like I love... I dunno.... shit that I really, really love. I have one of these at home, one of them on  my desk at work, and this one in my purse. I love it. In fact, it's probably ridiculous that I have two other lip balms in my purse at all, because this is the one I generally reach for. However...

Tokyomilk Dark Bee Balm and Jasmine Lip Balm in Salted Caramel
The smell of this lip balm puts me in raptures. Enough in raptures, really, that I can ignore the fact that I don't think it gives me any actual lasting moisture on my lips. It feels really good when it's on and I feel like it would be good protection against drying elements, but I don't think it's particularly moisturizing. But like I said... I don't actually care because it smells like delicious heaven and I need to pause in typing this so I can put some on for smelling purposes.

Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in White Russian
I absolutely love sample size lip products. Reason? Because I don't think I've actually used up an entire lip product that wasn't a lip balm since I was 14 and I was wearing a real classy brown lipstick every day to look sassy. That said, this is one that I actually might get through and that I actually feel like I'd repurchase. I like the tingly feel on the lips and I feel like this is good on top of a nude lipstick but also just on its own to give me a little something.

NYC City Proof Twistable Intense Lip Color in  010 Nolita Neutral
Generally I walk past the NYC section in the drugstore because I never seem to find that quality holds up for me, but when there's a new jumbo lip pencil I can really never resist. The first one of these that I tried was in Gramercy Park Plum, because I seem to be scooping up every dark berry lipstick I can find lately trying to find a Holy Grail, and I was actually shocked at how smooth and pigmented it was. I picked up this one and it pretty much instantly became a purse pick. I don't have to worry about a mirror to put it on and it's another one of those things that's just a super simple, quick something on the lips.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in 225 Sultry
This is pretty much the perfect example of how things migrate into my bag and then just stay there. I wore this lip colour when I went to dinner with friends on Saturday night and it's now Thursday and it has been in there untouched ever since. I'm actually not the biggest fan of the matte balms because I find them a little bit drying, but I think this colour is really classy for a casual dinner and the wear is actually quite good. I also have one of the matte balms in a really chic red, but I don't think that I'm going to be running out to get every colour anytime soon. (Except Shameless, which I've been eyeing every time I go to the drugstore and have almost bought at least 3 times. It'll happen. Probably soon.)

NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulée
This is actually the only thing from my March favorites that's still in my bag. And let's be real, it's probably going to stay in my bag until it runs out. It's pretty, smells yummy, feels good, and is an absolute no brainer. This is still, by far, one of my favorite lip products of the moment.

Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs Lipstick in Nude Lust
I have a very distinct feeling that me and the Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks are going to be close this summer. I really, really like this creamy formula and the pigmentation is quite beautiful. Unfortunately, none of the other shades in The Buffs series really jumped out at me, but I think it might be time for me to throw caution to the wind and try some of The Vivids. For now, though, I'm going to spend some time with Nude Lust and see how we go.

So there you have it... The entire beauty contents of my purse at the moment.
