TARGET HAUL w. FIRST IMPRESSIONS

by - February 26, 2015

I swear, it was an accident! I popped into Target last night to grab a couple of soup bowls on liquidation because I had seen some cute stoneware ones there that work fairly nicely with our dishes, and I had to meander over to the beauty section just to see what was up... and, if I'm honest, to hem and haw over whether or not I wanted to pick up the Sonia Kashuk No. 17 brush. I've been checking it out every time I've been in there, but I hadn't picked it up yet. Anyway, when I got over to the beauty section, I found that they had all of these boxes absolutely full of Sonia Kashuk and Pixi products and a lot of them were even more discounted than all of the other makeup, so of course I went a little bit mad with shopping power. (I think I really need a no buy... maybe for March....) I figured I would make this post so that people who might be interested can check and see if their Target has some of this boxes of products up for offer. Also, I'll list some of the other products that they had boxes full of that I didn't pick up at the end of this post.

Keep reading to take a look at what I picked up.

Sonia Kashuk Medium Multipurpose Brush No. 17

I bought it. I've been checking out this brush for quite some time and I finally decided to just go for it and I'm so glad I did. I used this to apply my blush this morning and it worked exactly how I want a blush brush to work. I like an angled brush that isn't too fluffy for applying my blush, I find it gives me the most precise application, and this is just the right size and shape. The bristles are incredibly soft, which I absolutely love, and I'm finding that I really like the ergonomic handle. My only complaint would be that I did notice a little bit of shedding with this brush, but I'm hoping that will go away after I wash it.

Sonia Kashuk Monochrome Eye Quad in Textured Cocoa

I was so excited when I saw this quad in the boxes - especially since it ended up costing me under $3. I already have one of this quads in the shade Textured Mauve, which is a gorgeous taupey purple quad, and I loved these beautiful browns. What I love about these quads is that it really is basically 4 of the same shade in completely different finishes. As you can see in the swatches below, there is an almost metallic finish, a matte finish with fine glitters in, a completely matte finish, and then a kind of iridescent glitter topper. The texture and pigmentation on these shadows are completely incredible with full colour and a creamy texture. The only one that I don't love is the iridescent glitter shadow because it just really isn't my style, but the rest are amazing.

Sonia Kashuk Twist Up Long Wear Brow Pencil in Taupe

I almost didn't pick this up because the tube looked like such a warm shade, which is definitely not my preference for my brows, but I figured that it was worth a try so I just grabbed it. I used it on my brows today and I think I like it. It's a nice dry formula, so it doesn't go too crazy pigmented or creamy when you use it, and it doesn't run nearly as warm as I thought it would. It's definitely a little warmer than my Anastasia Brow Wiz, but still completely wearable. I don't think this is a must have, but I'm not mad at it.

Sonia Kashuk Satin Luxe Lipstick in Plum Wine

This is another item that was discounted to below $3 and I figured... Why not? In the tube, it looks like a gorgeous grape purple, but unfortunately on the lips it's a little too vampy for my tastes and runs a little more brownish than I was expecting. Still, it's a nice texture and I'm sure I could probably play with it and get it to work a little better for me. Either way... I'm not too bummed since it was so cheap, but I don't think I'll recommend this to anyone who isn't looking for a very vampy plum shade with a bit of a glossy finish.

Pixi by Petra Lip&Line in Orchid Rose

This is another product that was not at all the shade that I was expecting. This dual ended lip product, with a creamy lip liner at one end and a slimline lipstick at the other, has a pretty nice texture and sets to a matte finish. Unfortunately, the shade runs a little muddy on my lips. Again, I think I'll play around with it and see what I could do to make it a little more wearable for me, but I can't say I find it to suit it's shade name. I would expect a lot more pink/purple in "Orchid Rose" where this runs much more towards a brown/caramel type of shade.

Ardell Accents #301

I'm trying to get into lashes recently, and finding more and more that I am absolute crap at applying a full strip of lashes. No matter what I do, what kind of lashes I use, or what kind of glue I use the inside corner always lifts up and looks ridiculous. Half lashes, however, are no problem whatsoever for me to apply and are much more comfortable to wear, so I grabbed these up. These weren't in the big buckets. In fact, they were literally the last set of lashes left on the shelf, but I grabbed them up anyway because I feel like you can't go wrong stocking up on lashes you know you love.

So there you have it... my accidental Target haul! Along with my new soup bowls, this haul cost me under $40, which... is pretty damn amazing, if you ask me. Yes, I definitely got a couple of shade duds, but I'm still not mad at it.

As far as other things that were featured in those boxes that I didn't pick up:
Various Sonia Kashuk Bath & Body Products
Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Translucent Illuminator
Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Brightening Primer
Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Luminous Foundation
A couple of Sonia Kashuk Blushes, Bronzers, and Undetectable Powders
Sonia Kashuk Velvety Matte Lip Crayon in Rosey Nude & Blossomy Nude (!!)
A few different Sonia Kashuk Lipsticks and Lip Glosses
A couple of different Sonia Kashuk Nail Polishes
Pixi Eyeshadow Palettes (Not sure which ones, didn't look too closely.)
Pixi Bronze Sculpt Trio
Pixi Natural Brow Duo
Pixi H20 Skin Tint
Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm (!!)
I know there were a few others things, but I'm struggling to remember them. Either way, I'd say it's worth a peek into your local Target to see if they have anything like this going on during liquidation because you never know what jewels you can find!

Hope you found this post informative, or at the very least interesting! Let me know what kinds of gems you've picked up lately - at Target or anywhere else!
