GUEST POST: WORTH THE SPLURGE with Jodi!
Hey everyone! I’m Jodi and I blog over at Up the
Rollercoaster where I post about my ever growing lipstick obsession,
among other makeup musings. I’m so thrilled to be taking over Trysh’s blog
today as part of the Canadian Beauty Blogger’s guest post swap. This month’s
theme is Worth the Splurge and I have
to admit that it gave me abit of a pause. I felt like everything that I wanted
to talk about I’d already blogged about recently but then I realized I could
combine all of my favourite high end bits into one makeup look and it’d be the
perfect way to showcase them. So let’s get to it hmm?
Base
I only own one high end foundation but thanks to samples from
Sephora I think I found the best of them for my skin. The NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation (I reviewed it here) is super liquidy in texture but with
surprisingly high coverage. It blends into my skin beautifully with a makeup
sponge and is medium to full coverage without feeling heavy. It does lean yellow
on the skin, but I have so much redness thanks to acne scarring that I find it
really helps to mask any imperfections.
My skin has been surprisingly great lately, so I could have
skipped the concealer all together if it weren’t for the dark circles that just
won’t quit. Thankfully, NARS Radiant
Creamy Concealer is great at brightening without being cakey, so a quick
swipe of that fixes me up. This is one of those concealers that can do anything
- cover blemishes, brighten dark areas...though I do find it tends to disappear
on my spots if I don’t set it really well.
(I like Rimmel’s Stay Matte for that, though it’s not a splurgey item so I didn’t include it in the photos.)
I feel like every blogger is talking about BECCA highlighters
right now (and for good reason - they’re gorgeous!) but I can’t stop using Girl Meets Pearl from Benefit. Benefit describes it as liquid pearl for face and that is so
accurate - it has a slight pink tone to it that makes it just perfect my fair
skin.
To set all of this beautiful makeup Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray is where it’s at. It gets
rid of any powdery-ness that may be leftover from setting your concealer and it
gives the skin such a pretty glow.
Eyes
I’ve been feeling all about the gold eye recently (summer lovin) and Urban Decay’s duo of Twice Baked/Half Baked (review) is the perfect way to achieve a simple
looking, yet beautiful eye. I’ve been loving to swipe Twiced Baked onto my eye
then pat Half Baked on right over top, focusing on the inner corner for a bit
of dimension. It achieves a beautiful duochrome that I was not expecting the
first time I tried it, and because the shadows are so buttery and blendable they
mesh together perfectly.
Now for my brows...these babies are sparse and need a lot of
help and Dior knows just what I
need. The Diorshow Brow Styler in
Universal Brown is the perfect shade for me and the teeny tiny nib makes it
perfect to draw each and every little missing hair. It’s also got a spoolie on
the end so it’s so convenient for brushing through the brows at the end for a
little blending action.
Lips
My favourite part of any look is the lips and I have been obsessed over Clinique’s Pop Lip Pop + Primer lipsticks since I first swatched
Poppy Pop months ago. (I reviewed them here and here if you’re interested) The one I put on
today is Grape Pop, a delightful purple that makes me happy every single time I
look at it. I actually wore it over Smashbox’s
The Nude Lip Pencil in Fair (which I think has been discontinued). It’s a
beautiful rosey nude colour for us fair ladies (who woulda thought? Ha!) and it
adds just a hint of mauve to Grape Pop which I really love.
Also on my face:
-
Covergirl Flamed Out Mascara in Very Black Blaze /
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara in Blackest Black
-
Rimmel Stay Matte powder in Translucent
-
Annabelle Biggy Bronzer in Matte Gold (review)
-
Joe Fresh Blush in Light Peach
And that’s that! What are your favourite high end products?
