Winter skin is a pain in my ass, seriously. A prairie winter is dry as a bone and what my bff and I like to call "witch balls cold", which means that I need to seriously up my body moisturizer game at this time or year or risk having dry, flaking skin that feels distinctly reptilian. Are we grossed out yet? Anyway, one of my favorite ways to deal with winter dryness is to use a body oil when I get out of the shower. Recently I was introduced to Zaya, a Canadian eco-skincare company that blends beauty oils from a combination of plant and essential oils. I had the opportunity to try out the Grapefruit & Rosemary Body Oil*, so I've been using it after the shower and....

About Zaya Grapefruit & Rosemary Body Oil*:
This body oil is like invisible lingerie — smoothing out trouble areas and accentuating your natural assets. Delicately composed, this blend of oils keeps your skin hydrated and balanced and gives your body a boost of nutritive energy. While promoting the firm and smooth appearance of your skin, Grapefruit and Rosemary essential oils tone your skin while the bright scent inspires you to show off your playful side!
First, let's just talk about the packaging. Each bottle of oil comes housed in a beautiful box with really soft, pretty branding on it. There's something that's a little bit luxurious, but also quite simple about the way this is packaged. According to Zaya's website, the boxes are made out of 100% recycled paper and printed with soy ink. I love that this company is being mindful about caring for the environment with their packaging, because not enough genuinely do, in my opinion. The bottle itself is a very sturdy deep violet glass, which is important when you're dealing with oils because they degrade quite easily when they're exposed to light. If there's one thing that I could critique, it would be that I have to put several pumps into my hand to cover any one area of my skin, but that's completely manageable. Overall, I am incredibly impressed with the packaging of this product.

I really like the texture of this oil, because it is quite thick and really feels like it clings to the skin, but it doesn't feel overly heavy or greasy once you apply it. Like with any body oil, I do think you should wait several minutes after you apply it before getting dressed, but I haven't found that I've gotten stains on anything when I haven't heeded my own advice. The thing that really stands out to me when I use this oil is that my skin feels quite plump and hydrated afterwards. It isn't like a lotion that makes your skin feel silky on the surface but doesn't really have much punch. This stuff has real punch.

As you can see from the ingredients list, there is really nothing but oil in this blend and everything is natural. While I'm not particularly staunch about all natural ingredients in my skin and body care personally, I know a lot of people who are and I do like the idea of using natural products on my skin, especially when hydratong is my biggest goal. I think the fact that I can read this and recognize every ingredient without having to Google them is nice. One thing I think it's important to note is that essential oils can be irritating to the skin, so it's important to do a patch test and make sure that you're not going to react poorly to any product that does have essential oils in it.

Now, let's talk about the scent. I wasn't really sure how I was going to feel about Grapefruit & Rosemary, since I couldn't imagine what that would smell like and I'm actually not the biggest fan of grapefruit scented things. Luckily, this doesn't smell anything like I imagined. Honestly, the best way I can describe it is that it smells like a Tootsie Pop. Weird, right? But stay with me. It has a citrus-y sweetness to it, but there's a more earthy scent that you can't quite place that rounds it out. I actually quite like the smell of it, but I also appreciate that it isn't too strong and it doesn't linger, which means I can apply fragrance without having to worry about the two things competing.

Overall, I think this is a really beautiful oil that does a great job of really hydrating the skin, which is important at this time of year. Above and beyond that, I think that the packaging is absolutely gorgeous and eco-friendly, which is always a big plus for me. This product is also Made In Canada, which I absolutely love. I think this would make a really lovely gift, especially if someone on your shopping list is a big fan of natural products and you'd like to gift them with something a little bit special.
