REVIEW: HASK Coconut Oil Hair Care*

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that I recently coloured my hair pink. It was kind of a whimsical thing - a couple of times a year I get the urge to colour my hair in unnatural shades and recently I've been giving in to that urge. Anyway, in order to get my hair light enough to be pink, I had to have some serious lightening done, which has left my skin a little drier looking and feeling than I might like. In my opinion, that makes this a perfect time to test out some different hair products because I feel like now is the time when I really need to nurture my hair and keep it healthy. Recently, I got the opportunity to try out some products from the HASK Monoi Coconut Oil line and really put them to the test on my stressed out hair. I've been using the Monoi Coconut Oil Nourishing Shampoo*, the  Monoi Coconut Oil Nourishing Conditioner*, the   Monoi Coconut Oil Nourishing Deep Conditioner*, and the  Monoi Coconut Oil Nourishing Shine Hair Oil* and I'm definitely ready to give you my thoughts on each!

ABOUT:
Toes in the sand, sun on your skin, sipping a drink out of a coconut (with a little umbrella of course)…. TIME TO WAKE UP! Sadly, it was just a dream. But at least you’ve got your HASK Monoi Coconut Oil products. Hopping in the shower with some Hask Monoi Coconut Oil will definitely make you feel like you’re in Tahiti. For thousands of years, beautiful and exotic Polynesian women have used Monoi Oil—pure coconut oil infused with Tahitian gardenias—to pamper and protect their hair from the harsh effects of sun, wind and sea. Our super-moisturizing Monoi Coconut Oil products are lightweight and fast-absorbing, leaving hair silky soft, easy to manage, and radiantly renewed. Using HASK Monoi Coconut Oil may not get you an actual tropical vacation, but we think they’ll make you want to put a flower behind your ear and do a little dance all the same!

Hask Monoi Coconut Oil Nourishing Shampoo*

I feel like this shampoo does a really good job of sitting right in that sweet spot, where your hair feels really clean without feeling like the nutrients and moisture has been stripped from it. I don't want my shampoo to strip my hair, not the least of all because I feel like it really pulls colour from hair. Though this doesn't claim to be formulated for colour treated hair, it is free of sulphates and alcohol, which I think is why it is kind to my colour and doesn't leave my hair feeling squeaky. One thing I've learned... Squeaky clean can be a very bad thing if you're prone to dryness.

Hask Monoi Coconut Oil Nourishing Conditioner*

One problem that I've had in the past with coconut oil conditioners is that they've left a residue on my hair that leaves it looking and feeling heavy and gross. I was a little bit worried that would be the case with this one as well, but I am THRILLED to report that this rinses completely clean and leaves my hair feeling soft and hydrated without anything left on my hair. I absolutely adore this conditioner for how incredibly soft it leaves my hair. And, you know, the smell... but I'll get to that soon.

This is another winner, for me. I don't love the bottle and I wish that they would have added some kind of little pump or a one of those tops with the smaller hole. If the packaging were just a little bit altered, this would be pretty much perfect for me. I like to use this on both wet and dry hair. On wet hair, I use a little bit more product and really work it into the ends of my hair before I blow or air dry. On dry hair, I like to use a little bit less product and kind of glide it over the ends of my hair using my fingers and then give my hair a brush to distribute the product. Honestly, I think I prefer to use it on dry hair, because I feel like it has a serious softening effect that way, but it works quite well both ways.

I also find that this really doesn't leave a greasy residue in my hair. I, of course, am very careful about the amount that I use in my hair, but some oils seem to leave the hair feeling a little slick even in small quantities. This one doesn't do that. I think this is actually my favorite hair oil that I've tried at this affordable price point and competes strongly with much higher priced oils that I've tried. Can you tell by the length of this part of the post that this is my favorite product of the bunch? Because it is!

Hask Monoi Coconut Oil Nourishing Deep Conditioner*

You guys have no idea how many times I've checked out these little packets in the store and resisted picking them up because I was afraid that it was going to be too heavy on my hair. I will not be resisting anymore. I'm not sure if I was supposed to use this entire packet in one go - it was A LOT of product - but I did. I like to do a hair mask in the bath and then shower it off afterwards, so that's what I did. I slathered this whole packet through my hair, read a book for 10-15 minutes in the tub, and then rinsed. I found that my hair was really soft and silky and brushed out like a dream after it was showered out. I let my hair air dry without using any product in it, just to see how it felt, and it was absolutely amazing. Though my hair didn't feel particularly volumized, it also didn't feel heavy or like there was any residue left behind and the next day it looked really healthy and bouncy.

Because it's a thread through all of these products, I wanted to save my rave about the scent of these products until the end. This scent is seriously like a tropical beach vacation. It's heavily coconut scented, but instead of that cloying, over-the-top coconut smell that some products have, this one is like real coconut milk cut with the softest hint of tropical flowers. It's about to turn my into a poet, you guys! If you like really tropical scents, this will be your jam.

To be really honest, I wasn't entirely confident that I was going to like these products, because I've had such bad luck with some other coconut oil hair products in the past, but every single one of these products impressed the hell out of me. I think that this line would be great for a lot of different hair types, but particularly dry, damaged, or coarse hair types. I think that the Nourishing Shine Hair Oil* is the biggest winner for me, and the one that I would recommend the most highly, especially to people who have struggled with finding a hair oil that doesn't leave a greasy residue in the hair.
