SUBSCRIPTION: Ipsy April 2016

by - April 18, 2016

I feel like I start all of these posts the same way... but I can't help it! It's that time again - time for you to see all the stuff I got in my Ipsy bag this month and hear what I think about it. Woo hoo! I'm feeling a little bit snarky as I write this - it's been a long week - so if I get a little sassy along the way, that's why. You may recall from my full spoilers post earlier this month that I wasn't entirely excited about this month's bag, but I actually have turned a significant corner on that feeling now that I've got the products in my hand, done some swatching, and did a little math on the value of the products!

Keep reading to take a look at what I got in this month's bag and my first impressions on the products!

pur~lisse Prevent Blue Lotus + White Tea Treatment Sheet Mask + pur~lisse Preview Blue Lotus + Seaweed Treatment Sheet Mask
2x Single Sheet Masks - Value $20.56CAD ($16USD)

I've actually really enjoyed some of the pur~lisse products that I've gotten in previous subscriptions and I still love a good sheet mask, so I'm more than happy to have these in my life. I don't think I would have paid full price for them in a store, but I actually have paid $8-10 for a sheet mask before and I did really like them, so I'm hoping that these are on par with other higher priced sheet masks I've had in the past.

tarte LipSurgence Lip Créme in Wonder
0.56oz Deluxe Size - Value $16.24CAD

Admittedly, I was a little bummed about being sent this because I was holding out hope that I would get the Buxom product instead. However, I applied this to my lips pretty much moments after I took the above picture, and it's pretty beautiful. The shade is a beautiful rosy red shade with super great pigmentation and a little bit of shine to the finish but nothing too glossy or weird. It's actually a beautiful product and I think that as long as whatever gives it the slight mintiness doesn't dry out my lips, I'll actually reach for it a lot.

Trust Fund Beauty That Glo Tho Highlighter
0.15oz Full Size - Value $25.70CAD ($20USD)

I was curious about this when I got spoiled on it, but wasn't sure that I would  be able to make the shade work. Now, I haven't actually put it on my face yet, but shadewise the swatch makes it seem like it would be workable, but unfortunately it has really fine glitter in it and that just doesn't work on my skin because I'm starting to see signs of aging and I have texture on my skin, so I don't know think this is going to work for me. It sucks, too,  because if it didn't have the glitter it would give a really pretty peach champagne glow to the skin!

Crown Brush C427 Tapered Duo Fibre Blush Brush
Fill Size Brush - Value $12.20CAD ($9.49USD)

This is another thing I wasn't quite excited about when I saw it in my Glam Room, but now having it in my hands I actually quite like it. It's unlike any of the other duo fibre brushes that I have in that it's pinched at the ferrule and I think it will be nice for applying really diffused highlight or blush topper, so I'll definitely get use out of it. It's actually quite soft as well, which I obviously like, and has the little finger indentations in the handle that I think is a nice little detail. Overall, I'm really not mad at this brush. (Even though I would have preferred the Luxie brush from this month's bags!)

Starlooks Luxe Longwear Mechanical Eye Pencil in JET
Full Size Product - Value $20.56CAD ($16USD)

I get annoyed at getting products from Starlooks, because I feel like it happens more often than any other brand, so I wasn't excited about this one... But again, I have to eat my words. This pencil is CREAMY and BLACK as balls. I swear, when I swatched this on my hand, I pretty much fell over. Now, I don't use black eyeliner all that often, but if this applies as smoothly to my eyes as it did to my hand and if it will stay in my tightline without moving around this could be a favorite. I can't even be mad at it, because it's genuinely seems like good quality and I'm actually eager to try it.

Total Value: $95.26CAD

I have to admit, I'm pretty surprised that the value came out so high on this bag, but I actually feel like I really got my money's worth. I'm a little bummed that the highlighter just isn't going to work for me, because I really do already know that the glitter is going to be a dealbreaker there, but I will definitely get use out of everything else in the bag and, really, what more can you ask for?

Also, this month's bag is adorable and feels pretty sturdy, so I suspect it's going to be heading into my beach bag this summer!

Have you tried Ipsy?
