REVIEW: Tresemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hair Care*

I love to see companies trying something new that breaks out of the standard that we've gotten used to, so I was really excited to have the opportunity to try out 3 products from the new Tresemmé Beauty-Full Volume line*. Now, I actually tried conditioning my hair before shampoo several years ago with traditional shampoo and conditioner after hearing someone with beautiful hair talk about using this process. I don't actually remember what the results were for me at that time, but I was more than happy to try the process again. Now, this review is going to be based on my own personal hair texture and needs, but I will try to be objective because I think it's important. To give you a frame of reference, my hair is quite fine but not thin, pin-straight, and currently damaged from having a balayage and applying vegetable dyes to the bleached parts of my hair.

Tresemme Beauty-Full Volume Step 1 Pre-Wash Conditioner*
So, the whole idea behind this line is that you condition your hair first to prep it for shampoo so that there's no product residue left behind to weigh down your hair. I found personally that I needed to use a lot of this product to really get enough moisture into my hair as, as I said above, it's currently quite dry and damaged on the end. This was fairly thin in texture, but it did definitely soften the overall feel of hair. One thing that I really wish was that the bottle sizes were reversed, because I absolutely always use a lot more conditioner than I do shampoo and that was very much true with this system.

Tresemmé Beauty-Full Volume Step 2 Shampoo*
After you've prepped your hair with the conditioner, you go in with the shampoo to actually cleanse the hair. I found that this did a good job of cleansing my hair without being too stripping, but that Step 1 didn't leave my with quite enough hydration to my hair to really stand up to the cleansing step. I do think, however, that people with hair that is fairly normal to oily and isn't damaged from colouring that this could definitely work nicely.

Tresemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximizer*
This is a leave in step that you apply before blow drying your hair and it claims to give volume and softness. I did find that this did help to smooth my hair and make it more manageable, but I did personally need to use it along with my usual hair oil in order to really keep the ends of my hair from looking too dry and damaged.

After using all three products, I did actually find that my hair had significantly more volume and that my hair did look and feel quite soft for the first day. Unfortunately, I do think that I personally need more hydration in my hair overall.

So my overall thoughts on this are mixed. While I do think this is a great system that could work really well for certain hair types - specifically those who have fine or thin hair that needs a lot of volume but not a lot of hydration or those who have oilier hair, wash more often than I do, and also need volume - for me this just doesn't quite suit my personal needs. I definitely wouldn't recommend this to people with dry or damaged hair like myself. I love the innovation and I definitely think that it has its place in the market, and I would recommend trying this to people who are looking for something a little different or find that conditioner tends to weigh down their hair. I know this is a little bit of a mixed review, but I think that's really because this line of products is intended for a specific set of needs and those needs are just not my own.
