EMPTIES: October 2016

by - November 04, 2016

I'm actually kind of impressed with my empties this month, I have to admit. It's actually pretty makeup heavy and I've got some products that I'm thrilled to have worked through - and yet another cleanout of mascaras that I haven't used in absolute ages that were just taking up space in my mascara cup. My mascara cup is a thing to behold, I must say. Anyway, I feel pretty proud of myself when I get through makeup products - to the point that I actually considered starting a no buy system where I wait to use up a certain number of products before I allow myself to buy more, but the chances of me actually following through on that are fairly slim.

Anyway, keep reading to check out what I used up this month!

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Clean & Classic Original (Review)
While this isn't my favorite dry shampoo, I was pretty impressed with this one in the Clean & Classic scent because it really did smell clean in my hair. I don't know if I would repurchase this, if only because I do like the CoLab Sheer Invisible dry shampoos better, but this was a good one and I get why a lot of people love this one. It was just a little bit more work than the CoLab for me.

John Frieda Beach Blonde Kelp Help Deep Conditioning Mask
I picked this up at Shoppers on a whim towards the end of the summer when my hair was seriously struggling with damage from being coloured and from spending days at the beach and the pool. I actually think this did a really good job of quenching my hair and left it feeling really silky and manageable. Now that I cut off all of the damaged parts of my hair, I have no need for it, but I'd definitely recommend it for damaged hair.

NEXXUS Emergencee Reconstructing Treatment
I literally saw no results from this. I'm not sure if I was using it wrong or if it just didn't do anything, but it just was kind of nothing for me so I really don't think I'd be inclined to repurchase. If you're interested in this product, I would maybe look for someone else's review, because I've got nothing.

NIVEA Eye Makeup Remover
I actually really, really love this makeup remover and I think it does a great job really getting in there and getting my eye makeup off. I actually have a ridiculous amount of makeup remover stocked up in my closet right now, so I'm not going to repurchase anytime soon, but I probably would.

La Roche Posay Micellar Water
This little bottle actually lasted me a really long time. While it isn't my favorite micellar water, I think it's quite good for cleaning up my makeup and I enjoyed using it. Still, I think I'm more likely to just repurchase Bioderma or Garnier over this in the future. It was nice and very gentle though!

Weleda Skin Food
THIS STUFF IS AMAZING. Ahem. Seriously, though, if you've got places on your body that need a serious hit of hydrating, like heels or elbows or knees that can dry and cracked and awful, I seriously recommend this. It's rare that a cream like this really excites me, but this one is absolutely awesome. I'll definitely repurchase, especially with winter coming.

Smashbox Photo Finish 24 Hour Eyeshadow Primer (Review)
When I first got this, I used it constantly and absolutely loved it, but somehow it ended up tossed in my drawer and I was never reaching for it. I decided it was time to use it up and immediately remembered how much I enjoyed it. I don't know that I'll repurchase it because I've been using a drugstore primer that I like just as much, but I definitely give this a thumbs up.

KARA Eyelashes # 747M
You  may remember that I picked up a couple of pairs of these in my ShopMissA haul recently and I really liked them. This isn't my perfect style since I prefer a Wispie or a Demi Wispie, but these are really nice lashes and though I won't order this style again, I have already ordered more KARA lashes and they're en route to me now. For $1? Really impressive. Recommend.

Ben Nye Cameo Luxury Powder
I picked this up probably about a year ago after years of hearing so many incredible things about Ben Nye Luxury Powders. There's really no way I can pull of Banana, but the Cameo powder is kind of perfect for me. I like to use this to set my face or very, very lightly to set my undereyes. Because I have fine lines under my eyes, I have to be careful or it can get to be too much, but overall I really like this powder. I have every intention of repurchasing.

Annabelle Skinny Brow Pencil in Universal Dark
I've used up quite a few of these brow pencils and I've really enjoyed them all. Compared to the NYX or ABH brow pencils, I think these are a little softer and more creamy and aren't as long wearing, but they're still good and they get the job done. I'm using up some other brow products right now, but I might repurchase in the future.

NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Powder Foundation
When I first bought this, I really, really liked it. I tend to use powder foundation to set a liquid or BB cream to add more coverage and this works really well for that. I've considered picking up another one, but to be completely honest this one got blown out of the water by the VICHY recently, so I probably won't. Still, it's one of the best ones in the drugstore.

Hard Candy Big Fake LASHAHOLIC Mascara (Review)
Did. Not. Like. This. Honestly, it's just been kind of sitting in my lash cup like... Why don't you just throw me out already? It's very black, but it just didn't give me the volume or length that I'm looking for and it flaked like crazy on me. Definitely wouldn't repurchase.

essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara (Review)
This is definitely one of those drugstore gems and I have to say that I really, really like this. I feel like it gives really good volume and length without looking too heavy or clumpy and it wears really well. I always really like how my lashes look when I use this. Not sure I'll repurchase anytime soon, but it's definitely one I'd be happy to pick up again at some point.

RIMMEL Lash Accelerator Mascara
I picked this up because I'd heard such amazing things about it... and I was pretty let down. Honestly, it's not like this is a BAD mascara, it just didn't really do much at all for my lashes and I found that I didn't want to use it because I want my lashes to be a little more bam than this could provide for me. No repurchase.

COVERGIRL The Super Sizer Mascara
This is probably my current favorite drugstore mascara and the one that I would consistently recommend to people. It's really black, it builds really great volume and length, and it wears really, really well on me. On this list, this is definitely the one mascara that I'm absolutely going to repurchase.

FLOWER Beauty Zoom In Ultimate Mascara
I bought this for the gimmick and it took me a while to even figure out if I liked it... and the final verdict was that I really didn't. I found that it was too much work for not enough payoff. Someone who likes really natural lashes might be really into this, but it just wasn't my thing. Wouldn't repurchase.

Kat Von D Lock It Concealer Sample
I decided I really wanted to put these to the test so I used them both for concealing and for contouring. Ultimately, I think that these are good quality concealers with fantastic coverage, but they're just not for me. I think that someone looking for a liquid concealer to cover pretty significant blemishes or scarring would be into these, but they're just not right for my needs. Will not purchase.

Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation Sample
Ahhhhhhh this foundation is so beautiful... and so expensive. I've actually tried quite a few samples of this and I love it every single time but I haven't been able to justify the cost of this foundation personally. I know I will pick this up at some point, but I will likely resist as long as possible.

I really wasn't joking when I said that this month's empties was really makeup heavy, was I? I think there's a really good range of products that I love and products that just didn't work for me in this month's empties - and admittedly, I kind of love when that's the case. Hopefully next month will garner similar results!

Thanks for reading!
