REVIEW: The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%
A while back I did a whole post about the products that I picked up from The Ordinary when I first heard that the brand launched, but I wanted to come back now that I've been using the products for a while and review them for you guys. The first one I want to review is The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA2%. I've had great success in my skin care routine with hydroxy acids, but I'd never had the chance to try lactic acid - which I'd heard great things about - so I picked it up!
Keep reading for some information about lactic acid as well as my thoughts on this product!
About:
- Lactic Acid is an alpha hydroxyl acid that exfoliates the skin. This 10% formulation offers mild exfoliation and is supported with a purified Tasmanian pepperberry known to reduce signs of inflammation and sensitivity that is often associated with exfoliation.
Let's talk about Lactic Acid for a
minute. Admittedly, I'm still learning constantly when it comes to skin
care ingredients, so I had to do some research. Basically, what Lactic
Acid does is it breaks up the materials that hold dead skin together,
which allows your skin to shed naturally like it did when we were young.
One thing that I want to absolutely stress about using a hydroxy acid
in your skin care routine is that you absolutely MUST wear an SPF to
protect the skin from sun damage when you do. Something that I didn't
know about Lactic Acid until I did a little research is that it also has
hydrating properties and helps to brighten uneven skin tone. Another
thing that has come to my attention is that Lactic Acid is a great acid
to start with because it can be more gentle and less irritating than
other AHAs. However, this formula is available in a 5% strength and I
would personally recommend that one to a beginning in AHAs.
After I ordered this, I was a little bit concerned that the 10% strength was going to be too much for my skin, but I really needn't have worried. I find that there's a tingle or occasionally a slight sting to the skin when I apply it, but it's not overly uncomfortable or concerning at all and I do find that it goes away fairly quickly. I like to give this a minute or two to sit on the skin before I apply the rest of my skin care routine, but that's just my personal preference and I don't think it's necessary. I've found that I can use this consistently - multiple times a week - and I haven't had any adverse reaction to it.
Overall, I've found that this is a really great product. I think it does what it says and I'm finding that my skin is really reacting well both in how it's tolerating the acid and the results in the look and feel of my skin. I've had less breakouts when this is part of my regular skin care routine and my skin definitely feels and looks really soft and smooth - dare I say younger? I don't. Let me clarify. My skin DOES look younger, but I think that's because I use this as a part of an overall skin care routine that is designed to deal with the first signs of aging and keep me hydrated. That said, I think an acid is a really important part of my skin care routine and this is a really solid one that I will continue to use.
The The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% retails for $6.70CAD on the The Ordinary section of the Deciem website with free shipping on a $25 purchase and it definitely gets a thumbs up from me.
Look for more reviews from The Ordinary to come - as well as another haul that should be arriving to me in a couple of days - as I try more and more things from the brand! Thanks for reading!
