REVIEW: Burt's Bees Goodness Glows Liquid Makeup

by - April 18, 2019

I feel like I've been trying out a lot of foundations from the drugstore lately and I've been having a lot of success. I feel like drugstore foundation formulas are really diversifying and improving, offering formulas that address a lot of different needs and are starting to rival much higher end products in quality and performance. So, of course, I was super excited to finally get to try out the Burt's Bees Good Glows Liquid Makeup*, since I've had my eye on it for a while now.

I really like the packaging of this foundation. In fact, I have to say I really overall like the packaging of all of the newer Burt's Bees makeup products. They all have this honeycomb theme, obviously very on brand, as well as really simple branding that I think is really well thought out. Of course, this foundation contains a pump and it's actually quite a good pump. For me, packaging is a super solid A+.

I felt like this review wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention the smell of this product. It's not a fragrance, more of a smell of the ingredients, I think, and it's not bad, persay, but it's... quite evident during application. I honestly can't really decide how I feel about it, but I definitely wouldn't say I particularly like it. It's not bad and it dissipates once it's blended into the skin, but it's one of those scents that I actually think might really turn some people off. As I type this, I'm legitimately smelling it and... yeah, I don't like it, but I can deal with it.

The formula of this foundation is really liquidy and quite hydrating, definitely a foundation that never, ever feels dry on my skin. In fact, I would caution people with oily skin because this isn't a foundation that ever really sets, even when I set it down with powder, and continues to have a hydrated feel throughout the day. On my normal skin, I'd say that I get 6-8 hours of solid wear out of this before it starts to get shiny, but it actually continues to look pretty good through another few hours after that. It also really, really leaves my skin looking and feeling really hydrated, as though it actually is having a skin care effect throughout the day as I wear it.

Contrary to their claim of full-coverage, I'd say that this is a light-medium coverage that's buildable to a medium-full, but I can't see it building all the way to a true full coverage without getting really heavy and sliding around on the skin. For me, I like to keep this in the natural medium coverage zone. I'd say that the finish of this foundation on its own is quite dewy and I think most skin types will really, really want to set this with powder for a more naturally radiant but not greasy finish and probably a longer wear time. In fact, I think that without setting this is likely a foundation that could really move around and slide around your face since it definitely doesn't set down.

I have to say, I really wish that I had tried this out sooner because I feel like this foundation - both the shade and the formula - is really going to be a winter product for me. This foundation is so incredibly hydrating and really does have a positive effect on the look and feel of my actual skin when I use it that I know it's going to be a dream during the colder months when I get drier. I feel like there's really no way that this formula is going to work for my personal skin type in the warmer months. However, if you're someone with dry or very dry skin, this could really be a lifesaver all year long. It really is a lovely foundation. Price wise, this is on the higher end of drugstore, but it really does stand out as the most lightweight yet hydrating foundations I've personally tried from the drugstore.

The Burt's Bees Goodness Glows Liquid Makeup* is widely available now where Burt's Bees colour cosmetics are sold and is available in 16 shades.
