REVIEW: Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation

by - May 21, 2019

When I found out that we were going to be getting Catrice Cosmetics in stores here in Canada, the first thing I wanted to get my hands on was the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation. I definitely heard some amazing things about it and I just wanted my hands all over it. Of course, when I saw the first Catrice displays at my local Real Canadian Superstore, there was none of this in sight, but recently the end cap displays have gone up at Shoppers Drug Mart and I was finally able to get my hands on this baby!

About:
The HD Liquid Coverage Foundation offers a high but natural-looking coverage, while feeling extremely lightweight – just like a second skin. Whilst providing a smooth and even complexion, the ultra-liquid texture is extremely high performing and longlasting. It covers imperfections up to 24 Hours and mattifies the skin. The extremely high definition finish is sure to make the skin beautifully even and camera ready.

I really, really love the packaging of this foundation. From how pretty and modern the frosted glass bottle and and the branding are to the dropper, I think this really strikes the balance between being nice to look at and very functional. I feel like dropper style foundations are really having their moment and I personally enjoy them nearly as much as a pump top, though the latter does have the added function of keeping air out of the bottle so that the ingredients don't degrade. Still, I like this style of bottle and I think it works really, really well with this type of formula.

This is quite a liquidy foundation, with that really silky, almost powder-like texture. Applied to the skin, I feel like it spreads and blends quite nicely and gives a really smooth, natural matte finish on the skin. I prefer to blend this with a sponge, though I will say that this thin formula is a little bit more easily absorbed into the sponge than some of my other foundations and because of that you might want to just go with your fingers or a brush. I find that I use about three dropper fulls to cover my whole face - one for the left, one for the right, and one for the forehead - and it does a really solid job.

I would say that this foundation has a solid medium coverage, not quite flawless but really well covered. Though I haven't tried to build it up because medium coverage tends to be my preference, the lightweight texture of this foundation could likely be built up fairly easily, though I would say that you probably wouldn't want to let your first layer set too much before adding a second. This foundation definitely sets down and I don't find that I need to powder it at all.

As far as wear time is concerned, I'm not entirely sure that it would live up to its claims of 24 hour wear, but it definitely gives me a full day of solid coverage without any breaking up or significant fading. There is, however, one issue that I had with this foundation that makes it pretty imperfect for me and that's that it tends to oxidize on my skin. I picked up shade 020 Rose Beige, which I believe is the second lightest shade in this range, and when I first apply it the colour match is really, really good, but throughout the day I've definitely noticed this deepening up on me.

Overall, for me, this foundation is a huge winner and worth the extra blending down the neck and addition of bronzer to help with the oxidizing. It wears beautifully and has just the right amount of coverage for my taste. I actually might head out and pick up the lighter shade and see how that works on my skin tone, maybe a mixture of the two will help with the oxidization problem. Either way, though, I would recommend this because it's just a really, really lovely formula.

The Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation is available in 18 shades and retails for $13.99CAD at ShoppersDrugMart.ca. It's also available in stores, but I'm pretty sure the shade selection is much more limited in the small Catrice display!
