REVIEW: CeraVe Renewing SA Products

by - May 23, 2019

Hey guys! Today I want to talk about some new and new-to-me products from one of those brands that quietly exists in my day-to-day beauty and self care routine but maybe doesn't get enough love. CeraVe products have been a staple for me for quite some time now and they're pretty much always at hand, but recently I've had the chance to try out some products from their SA line and it really couldn't have come at a better time.

Keep reading for more!

Like the rest of their products, the CeraVe SA line contains essential ceramides to help maintain a healthy moisture barrier in the skin. For me, this is honestly the biggest reason that I reach for CeraVe products so religiously, because I've experienced what a compromised moisture barrier feels and behaves like and I do pretty much everything I can to not have to experience that again. Above and beyond that, though, this line contains Salicylic Acid, which is a great ingredient for exfoliating the skin both on the surface and down into the pores for smoother skin.

CeraVe SA Cleanser*

Developped with Dermatologists, CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser provides gentle, non-irritating exfoliation without harsh microbeads or grains that can scratch or injure the skin. Suitable for the face and body as well as acne-prone and psoriasis-prone skin, this salicylic acid cleanser does more than just exfoliate skin—it softens and helps restore the skin’s natural barrier with three essential ceramides, this formula contrubutes to skin hydratation with hyaluronic acid and helps soothes the skin with niacinamide. This formula is also non-comedogenic, fragrance-free and enriched with vitamin D for extra antioxidant protection.

I generally don't use foaming cleansers, but I'm happy to reach for this one because I feel like it's much more gentle on my skin than others and doesn't leave me with that tight, uncomfortable feeling that others tend to. Overall, I feel like this really does exactly what it sets out to do, really deeply cleansing and exfoliating the skin in a way that's gentle and non-irritating. I tend to avoid cleansers that have physical exfoliation - AKA scrubs - because they can be too much for my skin, but this does a good job of leaving my skin feeling just that bit softer after I've washed my face without having to worry about damaging the skin. This would also be a great option for someone with acne, since salicylic acid is oil soluable and can really get down into the pores and clear things out, but because it's a gentle formula you don't have to worry about causing more harm than good by pushing your skin out of balance. Personally, I'm still more likely to reach for my beloved CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, but this one is really, really good and I think people with oily skin types will really, really enjoy this as a workhorse, every day cleanser.

CeraVe Renewing SA Lotion*
Developed with dermatologists, CeraVe Renewing SA Lotion moisturizes, exfoliates, softens, and smoothes extremely dry, rough and bumpy skin while helping to restore the natural skin protective barrier. This lightweight, non-greasy lotion, with 3 essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid, provides all day hydration after just one use.

I've actually had this lotion living on my desk for ages now and I've been using it as a daytime hand cream on days when I really need an extra punch of hydration. This lotion is quite rich and really feels like it creates a barrier on my skin without feeling at all greasy. Like, really, I can't understate just how rich and hydrating this lotion is. I also really like this as a hand cream because the inclusion of the salicylic acid really helps to exfoliate around my cuticles, where I tend to get quite dry, flaky skin on account of all of the acetone when I'm doing my nails. I really do think that this a great year round option for all of those places on our bodies than tend to get extra dry and flaky, because it gives both that intense hit of hydration along with the exfoliating aspect.

CeraVe Renewing SA Cream*
Developed with dermatologists, CeraVe Renewing SA Cream moisturizes, exfoliates, softens, and smoothes extremely dry, rough and bumpy skin while helping to restore the natural skin protective barrier. This rich, non-greasy cream, with 3 essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid, provides all day hydration after just one use.

Finally, this is the product that came at just the right time - although more for my partner than for me. Recently, my partner ended up with a really painful callous on his foot that was making it hard for him to walk without discomfort and when I did a little bit of research, one of the recommended options for dealing with a callous was to use a cream containing salicylic acid on the area to help break down the build up of hard, dead skin. As a result, this cream was quickly passed along to him and he used it every day - along with some other treatments - to help bring down the callous and eventually it really wore down and the discomfort went away. While I think the SA Lotion is a great day time option, for me this SA Cream is the one that I'd use on those really stubborn, really dry areas of the skin for overnight skin care, and it really does work. If you've been struggling with really stubborn dry areas, I recommend trying this out because it's a really solid cream.

CeraVe really does continue to impress for me with every product that I try. They all stand out as being different from the other products in the line, but they're all really high quality, no-nonsense or fluff formulas that do exactly what they say they're going to do without any worry of compromising your skin's moisture barrier. Personally, I'm probably still going to reach for the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser and the original CeraVe Cream, because those suit my every day needs pretty much perfectly, but I really do feel like these are products that are going to absolutely shine for skin types different to my own.

CeraVe products are available here in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart at affordable prices!
