12 NAILS OF CHRISTMAS: Crisp Blue Dripping Icicle Nail Art

by - December 21, 2019

I've always loved blue and silver for the holidays. I love blue and silver themed lights and decorations and I definitely love blue and silver nails. One of my favorite rich blue polishes is OPI's Yoga-Ta Get This Blue and I inevitable grab for it at the holidays for a wintery mani, and this year is no exception. This year, though, I picked up a silvery white glitter polish from the Essie holiday collection and I just knew that they had to go together for some really crisp nails that evoke the chilly temperatures and icy conditions that I'm used to at this time of year here on the prairies.

Without futher ado, let's get to the nails, shall we?

I started with two coats of OPI - Yoga-Ta Get This Blue on all of my nails. For the first and pinkie fingers, I then followed with a coat of Essie Matte About You Top Coat to give that sort of matte velvet look to those nails. These kinds of rich shimmery shades are really impactful when you matte them down and I love the look, but they really aren't the star of the show for me.

I wanted to keep it simple with the design, so on my middle two nails I went in with my NailStuff.ca 11mm Mermaid Nail Art Brush* and Essie - Let It Bow to create this dripping icicle design coming down from the cuticle. As we know, hand painting isn't my forte, but this is the perfect design for that because you just sort of have to gently wiggle the brush to get the sort of jagged icicle look. It really doesn't have to be perfect or crisp, which is great for beginners. Because I can't seem to help myself this year, I also added a single snowflake to the tip of my ring finger using the Beauty Big Bang XL-094 Stamping Plate and Maniology Bam White Stamping Polish.

To finish, I applied a generous coat of Seche Vive Quick Dry Stamping Polish to those two nails and voila!

This is another one of those designs that I think is really beginner friendly and can easily be recreated using polishes and tools that you can easily get locally - if you skip or hand paint the snowflake, I guess. I think you could also swap out the LE Essie polish for a silver or white glitter or even a really pretty holo polish and it would look great.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for another mani for this year's 12 Nails Of Christmas, which will wrap up on Monday with my final mani!

Thanks for reading - and I'd love to see your mani's if you decide to recreate this one!
