REVIEW: Fruits & Passion Kate Eau De Toilette
Though they aren't something that has been in my collection in recent years, I have a really, really special place in my heart from fragrances from Fruits & Passion. Weirdly enough it's because 20 years ago now (how am I this old??) my first love wore an aftershave from F&P and I fell so completely in love with the scent of it that I've always held onto that affection for their scents. So, of course, I was really excited to open a box from Avon and find Fruits & Passion Kate Eau De Toilette* and I couldn't wait to get it on my skin and in my nose holes.
I am the literal worst at describing scents - I just know whether or not I like them and what kind of sensory experience they give me, which is enough for making my own buying decisions but rarely enough for putting together a review. This fragrance is described as having top notes of watermelon and ginger, middle notes of light jasmine and peony, and base notes of sandalwood and musk. For me, this really doesn't read as a fruity or floral fragrance and I definitely get more of those woody notes, but there's a soft brightness to it that still makes it feel like a warm weather kind of scent for me - perfect for summer nights, I'd say.
Based on the description, I probably wouldn't have given this scent a second thought or assumed it would be to my taste, but I was really surprised to find that it's right up my alley. It's feminine, but not at all girly, and mature but not... you know, like an old lady. It has that warmth and depth that I personally look for in the scents that I tend to wear, but has that little bit of brightness that makes me feel good about wearing it in the summer.
In the bottle and when I first apply it, I definitely get more of the bright, fruity sort of notes that I was expecting, but as it settles and warms into the skin that definitely mellows and I get more of that warm sweetness that I like. I find that the wear on this is really, really lovely and for a more affordable fragrance it sticks around well on my skin throughout the day. I wouldn't necessarily say that it's going to stay strong morning to night, but as I've been using it I've definitely found that it lingers well for several hours - a perfect choice for the evening.
Honestly, I have to say I'm really blown away with just how much I love this fragrance - I really wasn't expecting it. I've actually been reaching for it every day for the past couple of weeks and I know that I'll continue reaching for it throughout the summer and likely into the fall. I also think that, especially for an affordable fragrance, this bottle is really pretty and one that I like having on my vanity. I know that for some people that isn't important, but I personally am more likely to keep a pretty bottle out, which means I'm more likely to reach for a scent. I definitely recommend giving this one a sniff if it seems like it would be up your alley!
The Fruits & Passion Eau De Toilette* is available from Avon.ca and retails for $40CAD as well as at Nature Collection Stores!
