CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Blue Flakie Gradient Winter Wonderland Nails

by - December 14, 2020

Hey guys! I have to admit that I'm kind of obsessed with today's Christmas nail art design. It's basically directly up my alley and I just love it - although I feel like I've been saying that a lot over the course of this adventure in holiday nails. I really wanted to be mindful of varying the nail art designs that I did here (although, let's be honest, I'm always going to be mostly about stamping) and I realize that I've leaned a little bit heavily into snowflakes... but I just 'em and I think that they're perfect for this time of year regardless of which holidays you celebrate or don't celebrate. Anyway, I love how this turned out and I think it's definitely going to be a mani that stands out in my memory among the 25 I'm doing this year.

Keep reading to see how I did it!

I really, really wanted to do a gorgeous and icy blue gradient for this mani but initially I wasn't really sure how the two gorgeous flakie polishes that I chose were going to perform as far as sponging them on because sometimes you get a little bit too much flakie and not enough base colour and it ends up a little funky. These two worked really well though and I ended up with a good balance of pigmentation and flakie components. I started with one coat of Polished for Days Echo as my base and then applied three layers of my gradient, being about 2/3 Echo and 1/3 Glam Polish Nalu on the sponge to get the opacity and blend that I was looking for.

The stamping for this mani is just... so simple, but I feel like this is one of those images that you just can't go wrong with because it always looks gorgeous and could pretty much look beautiful over any base. As I tend to when I'm doing a mani with the same image on all of my nails, I alternated the direction that I stamped this image to give a little bit of visual interest that kept all the nail from looking the same.

Once I had my stamping applied, I sealed it in with a layer of water based top coat and then followed with a quick dry glossy top coat for strength and shine and voila!

All Products Used
Polished For Days - Echo
Glam Polish - Nalu
Clear Jelly Stamper - 002 Jenny's Gonna Love This
Suncoat Water Based Top Coat
QUO Flash Dry Top Coat
Pueen Liquid Peel Off Cuticle Guard
Beauty Big Bang XL-030 Stamping Plate

Like I said, I'm so, so obsessed with how this turned out. I think the gradient gives a really nice shine and shift to the mani and, like a good design does, the pairing of the base and the stamping really implify each other. Highly, highly recommend this stamping plate, even if just for this image.
