CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Cold Winters Forest Night Nails

by - December 12, 2020

During the Halloween season, I always like to do these sorts of silhouetted skyline types of designs but I'd never really gone all in on one for Christmas, so I decided that this year had to be the year - and it didn't hurt that I'd just gotten my hands on the perfect stamping plate to fill out most of the design, in my opinion. This is definitely a more generally wintery design than a straight up Christmas design, but I like that - there are so many important holidays at this time of year that I really wanted to keep a lot of my designs from being full on Christmas.

So I basically wanted to go all in with blue for this mani because I wanted that real feeling of cold and crisp to come through and I think the best way to do that is with really cool blues - and the shimmer of holo doesn't hurt the iciness either. I decided to do a three shade gradient using Color Club linear holo polishes since they never seem to let me down when it comes to gradients and colour impact. I started with one coat of the lightest shade as my base and then used a makeup sponge to apply 3 coats of the gradient for a smooth blend a really full coverage.

For the stamping, I started by applying a dotted falling snow image to all of my nails - again, just trying to amp up the iciness. Next, I really wanted to layer blue and black to give some real punch to the design because just black could get a little bit lost. For my first and accent nails, I used the same image and just layered them, with the top layer slightly offset so that the blue came off more like a shadow than its own image. For my middle and pinkie fingers, though, I wanted to add some depth to the forest design, so I used different images and placed them thoughtfully in order to create some real texture and depth even with such 2D images.

Once I was happy with all of my stamping, I sealed it in with a layer of Water Based Top Coat and then followed with a generous coat of quick dry glossy top coat and voila!

This is one of those times that the mani turned out basically exactly the way that I pictured it in my head - which actually doesn't happen as often as one might hope, although sometimes for the best. Anyway, you can't go wrong with a crisp blue winter's night gradient and some wintery stamping, can you?
