HALLOWEEN NAIL ART: Turquoise & Black Zombie Skull Nails

by - October 23, 2021

When I was sitting down to plan how I was going to put together an entire month of Halloween themed nail art, one of the things I did was think about specific polishes from my collection that I wanted to pull out and feature. I feel like this many manis definitely requires some thoughtful choices in shades to really build it out and make it feel worthwhile and interesting. All of this is to say that I don't know what made my brain decide that the base polish for this mani absolutely had to get used and it very specifically had to get used in some sort of zombie mani, but it did so I made it happen.

Painted Polish's Just Made This was a PPU polish featured during their Guilty Pleasures themed month earlier this year and clearly - CLEARLY! - I absolutely had to have it. Painted Polish is quickly becoming one of my personal favorite indie brands and I pretty much always try to get my hands on her monthly PPU offerings. Just Made This, inspired by procrastination, is this stunning turquoise crelly base with these really beautifully blue/purple/red shifting metallic flakes. It's such a unique polish and something about it just basically screamed ZOMBIES! at me, so I went with it.

For this mani, I applied two coats of Just Made This to all of my nails and let them dry down completely.

When I was deciding how to do this mani, I was really happy that this plate had the full coverage image with the scattered skulls, bones and dots and also had the larger version of the skull. I wish more plates did this kind of thing because I think it really helps to build an idea for a mani in your head. I knew, though, that I didn't want to do the full coverage image for all of my nails and the larger skull for only one - it would be a perfectly lovely mani, it just isn't entirely my style - so I decided to bring in some text on the pinkie. I decided to keep it really simple with "SCARY" on the pinkie, the full coverage image on my ring and first fingers as well as my thumb, and then the larger skull on my middle finger. After I had applied the large skull, I decided to frame it with a little bit of spiderweb stamping just to really fill out the nail since I have a fair bit of length and it felt a little bit bare otherwise.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I sealed it in with a nail art top coat and then followed with a layer of matte top coat to take down the shine and give me a grungy sort of vibe. And voila!

I'm so excited to start sharing the mani's from this stamping plate, which ended up getting a little jammed up in transit from the US. It's such a great plate and I literally spent weeks waiting for it to arrive, coming up with ideas in my head on how I was going to use it to create a whole bunch of mani's for this spooky season, so there's definitely some to come in the next week!
