NAIL ART: Cute Coffee & Donut Nails

by - September 19, 2022

Literally as soon as I ordred the Manitude x Sip It stamping plate, I knew that I was going to do pretty much exactly today's mani and I knew that I was going to save it for the fall. I feel like I've said this a few times by now, but I definitely tend to have some distinctly subjective and somewhat weird ideas of when certain themes in nail art are appropriate. Even though I drink hot coffee literally every single day of my life, my brain distinctly feels like hot drinks are for fall time, so I held off on this one until the days were the requisite shortness. I really, really hope that this makes sense to someone other than myself...

Anyway, keep reading for more!

When I was choosing the color palette for this mani, there were two sort of starting points that I went with. The first was that I knew I wanted the base to be a sort of creamy coffee/latte sort of shade and I knew that I wanted to have at least one donut with pink frosting, so I sort of built from there with a mind towards cohesion and also staying true to the sort of vibe that felt like it fit the images I was going to be using.

For my base polish, I went with Dimension Nails' Sand Monitor, which is brand spankin' to my collection and is just... basically a perfect sort of soft latte sort of brown with just the tiniest hit of rosiness that I could 100% just be making up. For this mani, I applied one thicker coat of Sand Monitor to all of my nails and ended up with a perfectly opaque base that was ready to go.

I absolutely love Dimension Nails polishes, especially their créme finish polishes, and they have some absolutely incredible fall shades. I did purchase this polish myself, but I have also received several polishes from the brand in PR from the lovely NailStuff.ca and if you're interested in trying out any Dimension Nails polishes, I would absolutely recommend checking out NailStuff. When it came to the stamping, I knew that I wanted to apply the full coffee and donut image to one nail and then do single images for the rest of my nails, and I obviously knew that I wanted to do reverse stamping. I started by picking up the images I wanted on several stamper heads and then just went through and filled them all in color by color. I did all of the coffee cups white with soft taupey grey lids and red, pink and brown logos and for the donuts I did pink, beige and chocolate brown topped ones. I let the filled in images dry on the stamper head until they were dry to the touch but still left a slight fingerprint when pressed, and then I applied a sticky base coat to my nails and let it dry down to tacky.

Because the single images were quite small for my nail length, I started by applying this full coverage coffee bean image to all of my nails in a stamping polish just a little bit darker than the base polish. I actually really, really like this kind of low contrast background stamping to fill out and add cohesion to a design. Next, I went in and transferred the reverse stamped images directly to my nails. In this case, with somewhat mixed success, but I am also very, very much too fuzzy sometimes.

Once everything was transferred and I was happy with the design, I sealed it in with a nail art top coat followed by a glitter smoothing top coat to minimize any lumps from filling in the images. Once that was dry, I finished by applying a matte top coat to all of my nails and voila!

Admittedly, I did struggle a little bit when it came to the finer details of the reverse stamping part of this design, but I really feel like it was worth it at the end of the day for the finished product. Also, it has inspired me to possibly get my hands on some sort of magnifying dodad to make these types of things a wee bit easier.
