Prairie Beauty

I am entirely unashamed to admit that the color story for today's mani came from what was in my coffee mug when I sat down to do it. I quit drinking coffee about 4 months ago and I've been alternating between being a London Fog girlie and a Matcha Latte girlie and I just happened to be drinking the latter during this mani and something about the color just inspired me so I went for it. This mani is a bit of a recreation of one I did some time ago, but I changed up the color story and some of the details and I love the way it turned out.

THIS POST IS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PUEEN COSMETICS.

As the days continue to get shorter and the weather colder, I am definitely feeling the weight of winter and I'd say it has me leaning a little bit more towards vampier nail art designs than I usually do. Weird, vampy designs are very much to my taste, but I actually don't do them a lot here on the blog because I don't love the way they photograph. I suspect it's that the paleness of my skin - seriously, I'm straight pasty, my friends - and I just tend not to like the results. That said, sometimes I just have to lean all the way in on the deep and vampy.

Recently I was gifted some really, really lovely polishes from Unt and I was so eager to use them, but they didn't really fit in with the Halloween vibes so I've been holding off on using them until now. Because these colors are all so soft and desaturated, I knew that I wanted to do something sort of delicate with them and maintain that muted look overall. Of course, because I'm me, that meant putting them together in what is perhaps the most subtle smoosh I've ever done - and I love how it turned out.

Fall colors are and always have been my absolute favorites and I definitely get excited about pulling them out when the weather starts to get cooler - or, in this case, when Halloween has passed and it's basically right on the cusp of winter here in the Canadian prairies. Today's mani is definitely all about the color story and the pairing of different (absolutely gorgeous) finishes of polish, with the leaves design mostly acting as a vehicle for the combination, at least in my mind, and I have to say I'm pretty obsessed with it.

When I set out to do today's mani, it wasn't really with the explicit intention to recreate art projects from elementary school on my nails... but it's definitely what ended up happening. I'm sure that using leaves to stamp and create fun designs was a pretty common project that most of us did at some point and it gives such a specific look that as soon as I looked down at this finished mani that's exactly what it reminded me of. Well, either the specific use of leaves or carving potatoes to look like leaves and then stamping those, it also very much gives that appearance.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling about childhood art projects and get to the... adult art project? Ahem...

Honestly, you guys, the degree to which I'm excited about today's nail art design is basically off the charts. I've had this mani in mind for ages now, but it fell victim to being one of the designs that my brain convinces me is going to be hard to do and so I should put it off... and then it never gets done. I don't know if this a neurodivergence thing, but it's definitely something that happens to me fairly often, and in the case of this one my brain was entirely lying to me. This is actually a really straightforward design that packs an absolute ton of impact and I'm sort of madly in love with it, if we're being honest.
