CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Festive Red & Green Candy Cane Nails

by - December 19, 2022

As we head into this final week of holiday themed nails for 2022, I wanted to keep it Merry & Bright, as it were, with some layered stamping and one of my absolutely favorite polishes for the holiday season. If I'm being completely honest, I will likely not be wearing any of the designs I post here on the blog over Christmas, but I am very likely to have the polish I used for the base of this mani on my nails, so I'm super excited to have it featured in today's mani.

Keep reading for more!

As I said above, Starrily's Everest is one of my absolute favorite polishes for the holiday season and it was my wanting to use it that really drove me to put together this mani. Everest is described as "a green jelly base with holo flakes" and I would say that's fair but also I would personally describe it as a rich, cool toned deep green base packed with gorgeous flakes that pack an intense punch. Honestly, I just love this polish so much. I will say, though, that it is so intensely pigmented that it does bleed and stain a little bit, so be sure to use a good base coat and be prepared for a little bit of bleed if you stamp over it in white.

For this mani, I started by applying 2 coats of Everest to all of my nails.

Going into this mani, I knew that I wanted to apply these layered candy cane images, but I wasn't entirely sure what else I wanted to do so I sort of built from there. I started by applying the candy cane images to two of my nails, starting with white and then applying the stripes in red. Next, I chose some other images from the same plate - a large snowflake, some cute hearts, some mittens and some text - and I applied those across the mani, keeping mindful of placement and filling the space. Once I was happy with the stamping, I went in with a small dotting tool and my two stamping polishes and added some red and white dots through the design to just fill in any bare spots and bring everything together.

Once I was happy with the design overall, I sealed everything in with a nail art top coat and then followed with a generous layer of quick dry glossy top coat for shine and volume. And voila!

Honestly, I'm so in love with how this design turned out that I'm a little bit tempted to recreate it on my nails to actually wear for Christmas this coming weekend. It's just so festive and fun, a little bit of a playful version of classic holiday designs. I actually love this stamping plate specifically for that reason - it's got classic, very on the nose Christmas-y images, but with a playful overall vibe that stands out. Love!
