CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Red & Green Sparkly Christmas Sweater Nails

by - December 16, 2022

One of my favorite styles of holiday nail art is sweater nails. Obviously there's a million different ways to do sweater nails - and I honestly sort of feel like I've tried most of them at this point - but in my opinion a simple, straightforward sweater design is always a classic and a sort of can't-go-wrong type of design for this time of year. Though I resisted picking up the new Uberchic Ultimate DIY Sweater Palette (which I will undoubtedly stop resisting and pick up soon, if we're being honest) I did pick up some other Uberchic plates for this holiday season and was super excited to use one of those images for this mani!

Now, initially, I was actually planning to alternate between two different stamping images for this mani and it was with that plan in mind that I decided on the color story. I love really classic, bold red and green polishes for the time of year and the two base polishes I used for this mani are absolutely amongst my favorites. Bluebird Lacquer's The Ryan King 2.0 was a PPU Rewind rerelease last year and I never saw the original, but this one is STUNNING. And Starrily's Infrared is one of their collaboration shades with Kelli Marissa and it's also an absolutely gorgeous, impactful red.

To start, I applied two coats of each of my base polishes to alternating fingers and let those dry down. Be warned - both of these polishes are incredibly pigmented, so go in with a careful hand on application.

Now, like I said above, I was planning on alternating the images along with the colors, but I really just loved this image with the lattice and the little cottage and the trees so much that I couldn't resist carrying it across the entire mani. This image was a little bit short for my nails, so I ended up using bits of the image next to it (the one I had initially planning on also using) to add rows of snowflakes at both the base and tip of the nails.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I sealed everything in with a nail art top coat and then finished with a generous layer of glossy top coat for shine and volume. And voila!

I think that my tendency when I put together nail art, particularly since I share all of my designs on the internet, is to really throw everything at my nails and that can really overcomplicate things. I think this design is a really good example of how you can really put together a beautiful design with just base polish and stamping without any need for bells, whistles, and the kitchen sink. Or is that just me?
