HALLOWEEN NAIL ART: Muted Spiderwebs & Bats Skittle Mani

by - October 07, 2023

One of my favorite and most popular Halloween mani's that I've ever posted was a neon skittle featuring a combination of bats and spiderwebs. While I was tempted to do a straight up recreation simply using a different color palette, I decided instead to do a completely different mani that took inspiration from that one but definitely didn't recreate it. I often tend to lean into either bright or vampy colors for Halloween, but for this one I decided to go with some muted fall tones and I think it works pretty well!

When I was choosing the colors for this mani, I decided to dip into my Color Club drawer and pick out a few shades that I hadn't actually gotten around to using yet. I decided to stick to what I consider to be a traditional Halloween color palette, starting with orange, purple, and green, and then to fill out the rest of the mani I grabbed for a mustard shade as well as a dusty pink (on my thumb, not pictured.) I started by applying two coats of each color and letting those dry.

Because the original mani that inspired this one used a glitter topper, I decided to add a topper to this one as well, but instead of glitter I went with an iridescent flake topper that I think really works well with the base polish colors. I applied one coat of that to all of my nails.

For the nail art, I chose two images from the Uberchic Halloween 05 Stamping Plate. I started by applying the spiderweb image to all of my nails using a white stamping polish and placing the narrow end towards the base of the nail so that it would flare out towards the tip. Next, I went in with my bat image and applied that at the base of the nail using a black stamping polish. Though it's unusual for me, I did just apply the same design to each nail with all of the same placement, allowing for the color to be the thing setting each nail apart.

Once I was happy with my design, I sealed everything in with a nail art top coat and then finished with a layer of matte top coat to bring down the shine. And voila!

Now, I will say that this mani reminds me a bit of if Batman and Spiderman came together to create a cottagecore nail art design, but I'm definitely not mad at it. I feel like we need to shake up the Halloween nail art designs from time to time and, though this isn't exactly groundbreaking, I think the muted color palette is definitely a bit outside the usual and I love that!
