I have to say, when I sat down to do my nails last night for this post, I was lacking in both energy and inspiration until I remembered that I really wanted to use the layered mushrooms image from the Uberchic Sweater Weather stamping plate rather badly. Layered stamping images have always stressed me out a bit, but I've been playing with them a bit more lately and it really is amazing just how quickly they make a really complicated design come together. In the end, this particular mani came together really smoothly and I love the final result.

When it came to the color story for this design, I went back and forth on perhaps making it a little bit more whimsical, but in the end I settled on keeping it very classic. For my base polish, I picked this really pretty beige polish that gets a really lovely speckled look from a combination of really fine dark specks and small gold flakes. I felt like this color would make a really good base for the brown and red mushrooms as well as the gold stars.

To start, I applied two coats of my base polish and let those dry down. 

For the actual nail art, I used the same combination of images for all of my nails, but I did play with the number of mushrooms on each nail. I started by applying the stems image towards the tip of the nail using a rich brown stamping polish. Next, I went in with the mushroom caps in a warm red stamping polish. I then added in the spots in a white stamping polish. Finally, I went in with two different star images in gold stamping polish to fill in the bare spots.

Once I was happy with my design, I sealed everything in with a nail art top coat and then finished with a matte top coat for a smooth, flat finish. And voila!

I am definitely going to be spending more time playing around with layered stamping in the future because I just love how quick and easy these more intricate designs come together using them. Definitely keep an eye out for more layered designs in the future!
