Prairie Beauty

Back in the early days of this blog, I was SUPER into Korean Skin Care - like the rest of the world seemed to be as well - but at that point in time what I found was that a lot of the formulas I was trying out just weren't ultimately quite right for my skin needs. I feel like since then, there has definitely been an evolution in the types of products that are coming out of Korean and I've found so many incredible products that are exactly what I'm looking for - especially when it comes to a couple of key aspects of my skin care routine. I've also really learned a lot about skin care in those years and have definitely learned what my skin likes and what it doesn't. As I was doing my bedtime skin care one night recently, it occurred to me that this would be a great skin care diaries post, so I want to go into a little bit of why the products didn't used to work for me and what is different now that has renewed my

Over the past year or so, my approach to my skin care has changed quite a bit. Throughout my adult life, I've really learned a lot about my skin through both trial and error as well as learning about the science of skin care and different people's approach to skin care. The internet tends to have a lot of very, very strongly held opinions when it comes to skin care - and everything, if we're being honest - and I've seen a lot of people whose opinions and expertise I really respect making really black and white statements about what you should and shouldn't do with your skin. I get it, as humans we tend to want firm, decisive answers to questions, especially when it comes to things like our skin that can be so tied to our confidence and feelings about caring for ourselves. The problem is that skin is complicated, our needs are complicated, and sometimes the best thing we can do is try a bunch of different things until we figure out what works - and that can be a pretty awful process, if we're being honest.

Something that I've really figured out in the past year is that what works for me is really paying attention to my skin - where it's at and what it's in need of - and reacting accordingly. Where I've gone through periods of having a really firmly set skin care routine as well as periods of basically throwing everything but the kitchen sink at my skin in hopes of that holy grail perfect skin, my approach to skin care now is a lot more thoughtful and even holistic. I listen to science and try to use ingredients that have real evidence supporting them and I'm mindful of protecting and nourishing my skin overall, but when I sit down to do my skin care, particularly at night, I choose what I reach for based on where my skin is at and what I feel it needs.

So what I wanted to do with this post was to break down a week in my skin care routine and really address what I'm using on a day to day basis and why I'm choosing to reach for it, both from a position of where my skin is at as well as where I'm at personally. That's another thing that I don't necessarily gets acknowledged, especially in a climate in the beauty community where everything gets picked apart and anything less than a perfectly executed skin care routine is treated like trash. Some nights I want to do a full pampering skin care routine that takes me a long time and others... honestly, there are other nights when I barely want to do skin care at all so I really do the bare minimum. I'm human.

Anyway, without further ado, here's one week of my nightly skin care routines!

In 2020, I definitely want to try out more tools in my beauty routine, and I started out strong by testing out the NOWMI PRO Facial Skin Oxygenating Device*. You guys know, basically if you read any of my skin care content, that I truly think that a solid and thorough cleansing routine has really changed my skin for the better and it's something that I say over and over. So really, it's no surprise that I was so incredibly interested in trying out this baby. It's definitely different than anything I've ever tried before, which is always really interesting to me, and I'm super excited to share it with you!

Skin care has been a bit of an obsession with me for the past few years, but in 2019 it really did take over my beauty focus and I've been really figuring out what works for my skin and I think I have an amazing collection of products that I can reach for depending on my skin's needs. When I first started thinking about my 2019 Skin Care Favorites, I figured the list would be pretty short... and then all the different categories really became apparent to me and gave me a real sense of how much thought really goes into my skin care.

So, if you wanna see the products that I absolutely love in my skin care routine, keep reading!

I don't know about you, but for me summer is a time when I can be a little bit more devil-may-care about my skin care because the warmer weather and the higher humidity tends to be great for my skin type. However, as the seasons change and we find the temperatures dropping and the weather getting a little bit more unpredictable, I know that my skin tends to go through a bit of a period of chaos, especially the skin on my body that has been a little bit neglected and left to its own devices all summer. I like to think I'm pretty good at caring for the skin everywhere other than my face than I used to be, but I started noticing that I use both lotion and cream in different ways at different times, so I thought now was a good time to get into the difference between lotion and cream and how to choose the right product for your needs.

As a beauty blogger, I have a lot of people in my life asking me for advice when it comes to makeup and skin care, detailing their issues and skin type and what they're looking for. I can tell you with 100% honesty that when it comes to recommendations, CeraVe is probably the brand I recommend the most to the people in my life outside of this blog. There are several reasons for this, which I'll get into a little bit later in this post, but thus far friends and family members have taken my advice and had great results with the products. So, with that being said, I felt like really digging into the cleansers (which are probably my most recommended from the CeraVe range) and making really specific recommendations seemed like a really good idea.
