REVIEW: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Trio

by - December 22, 2014

So this was a gift that I received from my Secret Santa this year. You might recall that I included this on my wishlist this year, having said that I wasn't normally a fan of cream highlights but that I loved the swatches of these in store and that I would like to mix some into my foundation to give my skin some glow. Well, Secret Santa was watching and she hooked. me. up. Now, I'm not entirely sure if you can still get this - I have the sneaking suspicion that it probably sold out quite quickly in most Sephora locations - but I figured it's worth a review because these are available in full size in the permanent line. And because they're awesome. SPOILERS!

Keep reading for a closer look...

From the Sephora website:
What it is:
A portable liquid highlighter that spotlights your features for a natural-looking glow.

What it does:
Bring light and lift to the face when you define and highlight with this highlighter. It features ultrafine, light-reflecting pearls that melt into your skin for polished, natural-looking radiance. Light and sheer, these shimmering shades give you a range of tinted luminosity—and they adjust in any light to extend your glow.
Overall, I find these to be pretty much perfect products in my eyes. Like I said, cream highlights have never been something that I've gravitated towards, but these ones have completely changed my mind. You can either use them mixed into foundation to give a really subtle, all over glow to the skin or apply to the high points of the face with a stippling brush to give a bit more of a punchier glow. I don't find these to look glittery or over the top on the skin. While I've heard that the powder versions of this product give a really intense highlight to the skin, I find that these creams can be used really sheer to be really subtle and luminous or be built up to give a lot of punchy glow.

I figured that wear time could be an issue with these, but I actually found that they outlasted my blush and stayed in place for a long time. It's usually in the afternoon that I feel my skin starts to look a little bit dull, so having a highlight that goes the distance is definitely a plus for me.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl

This is probably the most universal shade in this set, I think, specifically because it could literally give a glow to any skintone and just look beautiful. I feel like this gives the most healthy sheen to the skin without actually adding any color. I was a little bit worried that it would be too light and actually take color away from my skin, but I found that it just made me glow.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Gold

This is the one shade in this set that I probably won't get a ton of use out of, to be honest. I think that this colour would be so absolutely stunning on skintones that are deeper than mine, but it's a little too yellow for my pale skin. Still, it has the same great texture and glow as the other ones and feel like skintones from medium to deep would do really beautifully with this shade. As far as I can tell from the Sephora website, this is the one shade that isn't available in full size in this format, but it is available in a powder form.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal

You guys. Guh. This is my favorite in the set and the one that I literally want to wear every day. You know the way your skin looks beautiful and flawless and luminous in candlelight and products are always trying to mimic that? For me, this absolutely gets there. It's very similar to my skin tone, which is huge win for me, just a little bit darker and warmer, and I find that it just gives me the most healthy glow. I find that I do need to use a light touch so that it doesn't muddy up my skin, but just a little bit applied to the tops of the cheekbones with a stippling brush and this is everything. I'm in love.

I don't think I've been the least bit subtle about the fact that I absolutely love these products. I think they really could work for any skintone, although if you have really oily skin you might want to try this out before you buy. I fluctuate between dry and combination skin and I haven't had any issue with this, but I think it could be something to note. I think that the Pearl shade is quite universal, but I would definitely give the biggest thumbs up on this one for fair to light skin tones. The Champagne Gold is definitely more suited to darker skintones, I would say in the medium to deep range. I think that the Opal shade could work for most skin tones, but I do think that fair skintones should keep in mind that it is going to add warmth and a little bit of depth to the skin.

But seriously, folks, if you can still find this in your Sephora, I highly recommend that you pick it up. If you can't find it and you're in the market for a cream highlight product, definitely consider these. I have to say, these beat High Beam from Benefit by a mile for me.

Until next time, friends!
