Prairie Beauty

In the beauty world, it feels like the holiday season is starting earlier and earlier every year. I remember back in the day when it wasn't until after Halloween that we started seeing holiday sets popping up at Sephora, but these days it seems like we start seeing them released even before Labour Day hits. I have to be honest... it takes a little bit of the magic out of it for me and I actually thought I was going to be pretty disenchanted with this year's holiday beauty releases... but so far, there are actually quite a few that have gotten me excited. Of course, there's also quite a few that I'm just... not at all interested in, so I figured I'd share both the hits and misses for me and why I would or wouldn't pick them up for myself.

Fun Fact About Me: I really, really love fragrance samples. It's kind of weird, maybe, but whenever I make a Sephora order I inevitably end up with at least one fragrance sample. I think it's because I genuine love higher end fragrances, but there's no way I'm going to spend the money on one without wearing it at least a few times to see how it plays with my body chemistry. In the past, I've absolutely loved scents in the store, bought them, and brought them home only to find that after a couple of hours of wearing them I absolutely hate them. Anyway, recently I made a Sephora order and one of the promo codes was offering this set of KAYALI perfumes and I decided I just had to try it - and even though this isn't something I'd normally review, I felt like it really had a place here and based on these sizes I really could give a solid review.

Hey guys! It's that time of year again - when makeup brands start releasing their holiday collections WAY too freakin' early. Once upon a time, I would get incredibly excited and have my eye on pretty much all of the holiday collections, but as the years go by I'm finding myself a lot more conservative about what really gets me excited. It also, honestly, really doesn't help that holiday collections start coming out in August now. Anyone else actually find more annoying than exciting? Anyway, I was perusing the Sephora website to check out what was new as we get bombarded with holiday collections and I wanted to put together a little list of some of the ones that stuck out for me - both because they excite me and because they bore me to tears! Be warned, there's a lot of stuff that I do not like in this post...

With the second wave of the always anticipated spring Sephora sale starting tomorrow, April 20, for VIBs and Beauty Insiders, I decided to peruse the Sephora website and see if there was anything I'd like to pick up. And by that I clearly mean that I wanted to check out the site and see what was new that gave me heart eyes. And because I've been loving doing these wishlists so much the past few months, I decided to put together a Sephora-specific wishlist that's comprised mostly of higher cost items that are easier to justify when you can get the 15% discount.

Every year during the holidays tarte releases a blush palette and I've always been tempted but I never pulled the trigger until this year. The Sephora Birthday Gift this year included an absolutely gorgeous tarte blush and I pretty much used nothing else on my cheeks for the last four months of 2017, so it was easy for me to decide to try out the TARTE Blush Bazaar Amazonian Clay Blush Palette when I ended up withe some gift cards I was itching to spend.

After doing my Eyeshadow Palettes cost comparison, I decided to follow it up with a cost comparison of miniature or travel sized products versus full sized products. Because so many of us, myself included, really get drawn in by the little aisle of doom at Sephora, I really wanted to delve into what the value of those mini-sized products that seem like such a good deal while you're waiting to pay for your purchases really is. There are a couple of types of products I chose to leave out of this list, which I'll get into in a minute, but I decided to choose products from across makeup, skin care, and hair care products to really get a sense for these kinds of things. I have to say... some of these price differences are downright shocking. The way that I calculated the price difference is is how much less or more you're paying per gram by percentage, because I feel like that makes it the clearest.

When I first started reading about French brand Roger & Gallet when they announced their partnership with Sephora.ca, I was really, really interested. With skin care products like a Beauty Vinegar and Legendary Fluid, a wide range of fragrance and body care products, and over 150 years making beauty products I was convinced that I needed to try some of this stuff out. The first product I have here to tell you guys about the is the Roger & Gallet Le Soin Aura Mirabilis Legendary Cream*, which promises to help even skin tone and made your skin look radiant.

I have to admit that I generally stick to lower cost mascaras because I go through them quickly and I do like more drugstore formulas, but my all time favorite mascaras are from high end and luxury brands. Recently, as a part of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers Network, I got the opportunity to try out the new Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara*, which definitely fits into the luxury category, but also stands out for a design innovation that I've personally never seen before.

Ever since Sephora launched the Rewards Bazaar, I've been anxiously awaiting a perk that I really wanted to get my hands on - and that I was able to grab before it sold out. The Rewards Bazaar can be pretty cutthroat and a lot of things sell out really fast. Anyway, because I'd been wanting to try a lot of hard products from the brand, I decided to pick up the Bumble and bumble. Top Picks perk for 750 points. Considering this is well over a $50 value, I'm pretty happy that I grabbed it. I was pretty thrilled that it actually came with a really great neoprene travel bag that I'm definitely going to be putting to use during my upcoming trip as well!

If you're interested in my thoughts on these four cult products from Bumble and bumble. keep reading!

Once upon a time, there was a vanilla powder from a Korean beauty brand that I was dying to get my hands on, but I didn't order it and now I feel like it just doesn't exist anymore - at least anywhere that I can find it online. I think that's a pretty significant part of why I picked up this powder - well, that, and all the good reviews I'd seen online. And, I mean, there's definitely something really appealing about the vintage look packaging of all of the Besame products, am I right?

I'm not going to ramble... Let's just get to the review, shall we?

I feel like seasonal wish lists might be a thing I start to do here on the blog more consistently. I really love looking through what's new or up and coming in the beauty world each season and putting together a list of what I want and why I want it. This wishlist is a little bit different from some of my other wishlists, because I decided to include skin care products that I'm lusting after as well.

So without too much more rambling, keep reading to take a look at what I'm lusting after!

I have a confession... I'm much more likely to buy a small, more affordable high end palette than I am a big one even if the bigger one is actually a better value. I feel like I'm not alone in this and more and more we're seeing Sephora brands putting out smaller palettes recently. I think the reason I'm more likely to go for a smaller palette is actually twofold. First, I have so much eyeshadow at this point that it's hard to justify yet another large palette. And second, it feels like less of an investment so I'm able to buy them a lot more casually. Make sense? Anyway, I've actually been eyeing the tarte Tarteist Pro To Go Amazonian Clay Palette for a while now, but during the VIB Rouge shopping event recently I finally picked it up - and it's been a bit of an instant obsession.

For more on this palette, keep reading.

Do you ever just peruse the Sephora website to see if you can find something exciting that you've never seen before? I do! In fact, I'm always on the hunt for something that hasn't gotten much attention on social media, because I really like to find those hidden gems. Recently, Sephora Collection released some new skin care products that are actually really, really affordable and I was definitely interested. I decided to pick up the Coconut Water Micellar Cleansing Milk and the Coconut Water Lip Balm to start, keeping the other versions in mind.

If you guys checked out my review of my first Custom Buxom Eyeshadow Palette, you'll know that I'm a little bit obsessed with this eyeshadow formula, so when I had a $20 off $50 coupon for Sephora, this is what I went for because I wanted some cooler toned shades and some more mattes from the line. I decided to go with 4 mattes in really neutral shades that I would use pretty much every day as well as two more colourful shimmery shades and I think it was a really good selection of colours.

When people asked me what I wanted for Christmas this year, of course I said I wanted Sephora gift cards because... I mean, what else does a makeup junkie really want for Christmas? I mean, I could have made a wishlist of holiday sets or makeup products that I wanted, but I feel like a gift card is a twofer because you get the gift, but you also get to shop - and getting to shop is always a treat, but especially when you're not smashing into your own bank account. So, when Christmas day ended and I was faced with what would be my biggest Sephora spend ever, I was literally having dreams about what I was going to buy. This is a bit of a collective haul and includes 1 online order, 1 return, and a total of 3 trips to my 2 different local Sephoras... all in about 4 days. I know, I'm a fiend, but can you blame me? I was going to hold onto one of the gift cards... but then I got an email telling me that I was almost at VIB Rouge status, so clearly I had to spend it and get myself those perks for 2017.

Let's get onto the haul, shall we?

Once upon a time, it was the URBAN DECAY NAKED palette and its sequels. Then came the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette and its sequels. It seems like there's always a new absolute must have palette that people fall absolutely in love with. Across the board, the reviews are positive and everyone is obsessed. I feel like in 2016 there's really only one palette that has that distinction and that's the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette. I mean... Obviously. I feel like overwhelmingly this is going to be showing up on a lot of Best Products Of 2016 lists this year, don't you? I missed the first run and spent at least a couple of months regretting it as I stalked Sephora to check if it was back in stock yet. One morning, while home sick from work, I randomly checked for it on the mobile site while curled up in bed... and it was BACK. So I ordered it like there was a fire under my ass and shifted my focus to stalking my Canada Post app for its arrival. I swear, when it comes to makeup I really want, I basically turn into a tiger stalking my prey.

Anyway... That's clearly a lot of anticipation for this palette to hold up to... Keep reading to find out if it did for me!

One of my favorite things to do on this blog is to put together wish lists - and what better time to put together a wish list when it's just about time for the fall Sephora VIB sale? Between 20% your purchases and all of the great Value Sets that are out for the holidays, it feels like the time to shop - whether it's for yourself or to get a jump on your holiday shopping. I did a little online browsing and came up with a list of products and sets that I want for myself as well as some of my own Sephora favorites that I would put a big thumbs up on and put together one great big list of my VIB sale picks!

Check it out!

One of my favorite holiday sets for the past few years has been these little tins that BITE Beauty releases every year. Generally they're just under $30CAD ($25US) and contain 4 deluxe sized lip products from their line. This year's set is called The Perfect Bite and is available exclusively at Sephora. Unfortunately, I missed out on last year's set because by the time I decided I wanted to buy it, it was well and truly sold out, so I didn't hesitate this year and bought it pretty much the first day it was available to not VIB Rouge members on the Sephora website.

Like most Sephora lovers, I love when they release their Sephora Favorites kit. Generally, you end up getting a selection of really great products at a really great price. Because I actually do kind of love deluxe sizes of a lot of makeup products - if only because I can almost never get through anything - these are the perfect kits for me. My favorite, and I suspect a lot of people's favorite, is the Give Me Some Lip kits. I love the large sized ones, which contain a ridiculous number of lipsticks, but I actually love the smaller kits even more! The last one that they released was the Give Me Some Nude Lip kit, and I absolutely loved it, so I clearly had to get my hands on the new Give Me Some Lip kit.

In case you feel like you missed out, I tried two Sephora stores and they were both sold out, but the next time I went back they had several on the shelf, so if you've tried to get ahold of it and haven't been able to... try try again!

Anyway, keep reading for a look at all of the products included in this kit!

I have to admit that I've been feeling a little bit uninspired lately. I think it must have something to do with the weather change, which distracts me and pulls my attention away. Either way, I hope you will bear with me if my posts are a little less frequent than they have been for the past several months! Of course, as a massaive makeup junkie, I'm always looking around to see what's new and exciting on the makeup market - and let's be honest, there's ALWAYS something new and exciting - so I decided to do a new series that I will hopefully do once a month which will highlight some of the new products out there that are exciting to me and why they catch my attention!

If you're interested in seeing what I'm eyeing up this month, keep reading!
