eBay Finds $4: IMAGIC Long Lasting Liquid Lipsticks

by - January 22, 2016

It's time for another eBay finds! It's been a while because the last post I had planned was derailed when the product arrived smashed. Like. SMASHED. I was pretty bummed about it, because I feel like I likely would have actually enjoyed the product - so there's a possibility I will try to order again from a different seller and feature it here sometime in the future. I decided to order these liquid lipsticks from IMAGIC because I've featured the other two prominent eBay liquid lipsticks and it felt only right that I feature these ones as well. These are definitely the newest edition to the ever growing market of Chinese-made eBay brand liquid lipsticks and I was hoping that they would improve on some of the things lacking in the MeNow Liquid Lipsticks and the QiBest Liquid Lipsticks - both of which had significant issues for me. As always, I chose 3 shades to get a feel for the line overall - a nude, a midtoned rosy shade, and a deep burgundy shade. None of the shades looked like their online photos when I received them, but I suppose that's the risk you run on eBay!

How do they stack up? Are they a great deal or still a waste of money even though they're under $4 a piece? Keep reading to find out!

First off, for me these definitely have the nicest packaging of any of the eBay liquid lipsticks. They have a sleek round tube with a matte finish lid that snaps securely into place. I like the branding on the tube and I feel like it makes the overall packaging feel a little less cheap. Honestly, I could see a mid-range product being packaged in this exact same packaging and I would think it was nice, so that's a plus for me.

Another thing that I like is the applicator itself. I find more and more that I'm gravitating more and more to liquid lipsticks that come with a flat sponge tip applicator rather than a traditional doe foot. I find that this type of applicator makes it a lot easier to get a really precise application of product, which is a huge plus when you're using a really pigmented lipstick. One of my biggest problems with applying deeper shades of liquid lipsticks is that if you make the slightest wobble during application, it shows. So yes, overall, I really like this packaging.

Shade #2
This is showing up a little more rosy in the product pictures, but you can see in the swatch below that this is a very peachy beige nude that almost has the slightest yellow undertone to it. I was expecting this to be a more mauvey nude shade, but alas... When worn alone on my lips, this shade makes me look completely dead. It's just very light and very much without any rosiness, which is what I need in a nude lipstick. I have found, however, that this formula has a little bit of sheerness to it and if I pair it with a deeper nude lipliner all over the lips, it does create a really pretty shade. This could ultimately be a good mixing shade, to lighten other liquid lipsticks up a little.

Shade #7
Again, this shade wasn't what I was expecting, but it actually is probably my favorite of the three. This is a very bright pink shade that I would call a mixture between a berry and a coral, even though that sounds really weird to me. I think that for the spring and summer, this could really be a great option shadewise. This also has the nicest, most comfortable formula of the three. It applies quite evenly and sets matte without looking too dry or cakey on the lips. (See below for more about this formula overall....)

Shade #9
In the tube, this deep raspberry is the most attractive shade for me, but when you apply it to the lips it deepens up quite a bit and is very patchy. You can get an even color across the lips with building, but the overall effect once this product is built is that it's cakey, flaky, and uncomfortable on the lips. Of the three, this is probably the shade that I'm least likely to wear, because the formula is just not conducive to it looking good.

Overall.... I feel like this is another one whose formula and performance fits the price. They're alright and I think that people who can find the right shade might like these, but the formula just isn't good for me. They take a little bit longer to set than I like and all do have a tendency to sink into your lip lines and look very, very dry once they do set. They also all flake off to some degree (Shade #7 definitely the least of the three) and end up looking kind of weird on the lips. The only way I think you can really get good, attractive wear out of these is to layer them over a coat of lip liner and apply them very, very thinly across the lips. They have good lasting power, but if you layer them on even a little bit too thick, they will flake, but they're also a little bit sheer so you have to make sure they're thick enough to be opaque. Bit of a tight rope.

My final verdict is that I would recommend you skip these, unfortunately. I might just be spoiled by the fantastic formulas of the Sephora Cream Lip Stain, the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, and the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks, but I feel like I really haven't found a low cost formula of matte liquid lipsticks that even remotely stands up to higher end formulas. This is definitely a product where you should splurge.

Thanks for reading!
