REVIEW: Hard Candy Sheer Envy Pore Defense Primer Serum

by - April 01, 2016

Since I enjoyed the other two new primers from Hard Candy so much, there was no way I could resist trying out this one as well. Touted as a primer serum targeted at pores, this made the claim that it would "smooth pores away", so I was holding it to a pretty high standard. I've been using this pretty consistently for a couple of weeks and I'm all set to tell you guys what I think!

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Pore-Defense Primer Serum contains pore-tightening actives and astringents that absorb excess oil for all-day flawless wear. Micro-fine powders blur fine lines and color corrects skin tone. Your skin will look and feel smoother, more uniform, and perfectly shine free.

I was a little surprised by the quantity of this product, since the bottle is really quite small, but you do get 1.5oz. of product in here. Not bad, right? The packaging of this primer is different than the other Sheer Envy primers and it also has a higher price point, both of which I assume is because it's supposed to act like a serum as well. I really like the packaging of this product, I must say. It has a pump that dispenses the perfect amount of product for me to cover my whole face, and it just overall looks really cute, in my opinion.

In testing this product, I tried it with several different foundations and foundation combinations to really see how it worked with each of them. First, I have to say that for me it just didn't have the blurring effect that I wanted for my pores. I also didn't notice any effect over time on my pores, though I don't think there were any claims to that effect I was hoping that since it was supposed to be a serum it would have an accumulated tightening effect. Overall, this was just an okay primer for me. I think it did help to give my skin a nice base for makeup and it did help to prolong the wear of my foundation a little bit longer, but it didn't blow me away or anything like that. I think it has a nice consistency and can maybe smooth very minor perfections, but it didn't really help to fill in my pores and create an overall smooth looking surface. I think that perhaps it did help to control shine, because I did notice that I wasn't looking as shiny in the T-Zone towards the end of the day while using it.

So... Yeah, it's an alright primer, but I don't think it lives up to what it claims. This could work better for someone else than it did for me, but I can really only speak to my experience. I'll likely keep using this, but I don't think it'll be a repurchase unless something changes in the future and I see more results.
