REVIEW: Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick in Lady Balls

by - April 28, 2016

So basically at this point I'm just determined to try out every matte liquid lipstick on the market, clearly. I love matte lips and I love a lip product that will hang around on my lips for several hours. Since I tend to press my lips together constantly whenever I have product on and that means most traditional lipsticks are gone within an hour or two. Anyway, as we all know by now, not all liquid lipsticks are created equal, so it's always with cautious optimism that I try out a new one. As soon as the Too Faced Melted Matte Liquefied Lipsticks were announced, I absolutely knew I was going to be picking up at least one of them. As is usual for me, I figured I'd go for the shade Queen B, which is the cool toned mauve nude of the bunch. However, since all of the nudes were sold out when I popped into Sephora, I decided it was time for me to get a good red and this one in the shade Lady Balls (HOW AMAZING IS THAT NAME THOUGH?) is a beautiful shade, so I grabbed it!

ABOUT:
Matte color gets a makeover. Too Faced’s innovative formula glides onto lips like a gloss but dries to an ultra-matte, opaque finish. Melted Matte ensures that your lip color always looks rich, full, and kissable—and is never dry, shriveled, or cracked. The doe-foot applicator comfortably coats lips in bursts of intense, vivid matte color that lasts for hours. It’s infused with Volulip for a no-sting plumping and smoothing effect and antioxidant-rich avocado oil and vitamin E to moisturize, while hyaluronic filling spheres smooth the look of lip lines. It comfortably coats lips with a wash of intense, high-impact, super-saturated color that lasts for hours.

Can we just take a moment to bask in how gorgeous this is? I mean, really, when it comes to packaging, I feel like Too Faced has been killing everything recently, but this is just so freakin' pretty. I love that the tube is shaped a little bit like the tube of the original Melted lipsticks, but in a high quality acrylic. The gold lid and branding is gorgeous, and the Melted Matte logo itself is embossed onto the tube. Honestly, I could rave for hours about how gorgeous this is, and really I think only other makeup lovers such as myself would get it. But really. I mean.

The applicator for this product is a traditional doe foot and I feel like it's stiff enough to apply the product with good precision, but not so stiff that it doesn't hold enough product. Anyone else have the issue with having to dip multiple times to get an even application of product on the lips with some applicators? Definitely no issue with that with this product.

I can't even tell you guys how glad I am that Queen B was sold out when I bought this, because I absolutely needed this shade in my collection. Lady Balls is a really classic, Pin Up style blue based red that has a ton of impact on the lips. The pigmentation on this lipstick is pretty much insane and I actually find that I have to be extra careful when I apply it because it's so pigmented that if I'm not careful I can make a real mess. I do like to apply this with lip liner for that reason, not because it needs any help but because it looks best with a really clean edge.

Now, obviously I have to talk about how this actually wears. Now, for me, I can get between 5 and 6 hours out of this liquid lipstick without having to reapply. While that may not seem like much to some people, that's pretty much a miracle for me. I do find that after a few hours I do tend to find a minimal amount of crumbling around the inner rim of my lips, but it's really quite minimal and brushes away easily with a tissue. I haven't tried applying this over itself, because I tend to be someone who just removes a product and reapplies, but the texture of it makes me think that it would apply over itself nicely.

Now, obviously, since this is a matte liquid lipstick, it's not going to be hydrating and your lips will likely need some TLC once you remove it, but I actually don't find this to feel or be nearly as drying on my lips as a lot of other liquid lipsticks I've tried. I would say that it's not quite budge proof, but almost, and that means that it doesn't every quite get that really dry, powdery feel to it. For me, this is definitely up there with the most comfortable matte liquid lipsticks that I own.

Honestly, I'm so excited about this formula that I'm going to have to go out and pick up Queen B - since that's basically a signature shade for me - but I'm also thrilled that I picked up this one. Seriously, guys, Too Faced is knocking it out of the park for me lately!
