REVIEW: COVERGIRL Intensify Me Liquid Eyeliner in Sapphire

by - December 12, 2016

For a long time, liquid eyeliner was a bit of a mystery to me. I mean, I looked at how it looked on other people with awe and watched people try to teach me how to apply it with absolute confusion. What I've learned is that it takes practice to get to a place where your skills aren't a meme waiting to happen - but don't worry, we all go through the meme stage. Another thing that I've found is that you have to try different applicator styles to really see which ones are going to work for you. Recently, I've had the opportunity to try out the CoverGirl Intensify Me by Lashblast Liquid Liner in Sapphire*, which has a pretty interesting applicator, and I'm ready to review it for you guys!

About:
  • Get the control of a pencil with the intensity of a liquid eyeliner for beautifully defined eyes every time. Our all-new paddle-shaped tip gives you two looks in one—thick and dramatic or thin and elegant. The intense formula glides on smoothly and dries quickly for instant drama. Clinically tested, suitable eyeliner for sensitive eyes.

The first thing I want to talk about is obviously the wand, because I feel like that's the thing that really makes this liner unique. I, personally, haven't seen any other liquid eyeliners that have this kind of tip on them. This is described as a paddle applicator and I would say that's fairly accurate. It's very firm and flat with a rounded tip and you can use it both ways, either on the narrow end for a thinner line or the broader end for a more pronounced line.

I've personally only used this on the narrower end because I prefer a thinner line and don't really have the lid space for a very pronounced line anyway. I found it a little bit awkward on my first use, but upon my second use I actually found it really easy to apply quite smoothly. The only thing that I think might be a problem with this liner for a lot of people is that because the tip is rounded, it might be a lot of work to get a really sharp wing applied.

The formula of this liner is actually really impressive to me. It's thin, so it glides on easily, but really pigmented so that I didn't have to fight with it to get a really even line on my eyes. It also dried really quickly and stayed put absolutely all day. In fact, on the day the pictures below were taken, I applied this at around 7:45 in the morning and was showing it off to a friend around 12 hours later and it had only had the most minimal of fading at that point.

I wasn't thinking about it when I started this look, I was mostly just thinking that olive and sapphire would look really nice together, but I actually kind of love how this mimics and intensifies my own eye colour. I feel like this shade would be perfect for people who have eyes like mine, which are a sort of dark blue/green shade that shifts a little bit based on what I'm wearing, or for just blue or green eyes because it'll really kind of make them pop.

Overall, I'm actually a lot more impressed with this liner than I thought I was going to be and I'm very tempted to try out the black and see if I like the formula as much. Personally, I prefer a really pointed brush tip applicator because it's what I'm used to and I feel like I get the smoothest line with it, but I actually do feel like this applicator works quite well and is something that I could easily get used to. I also think that this could be good for someone just starting out with liquid liner because it's so firm that you don't have to worry about it shifting around while you're trying to make your line.
