REVIEW: COVERGIRL So Lashy! Blast PRO Mascara

by - December 07, 2016

Over the past several years, I feel like CoverGirl has firmly taken the mantle of being the best brand at the drugstore for solidly good mascaras. It started with the original Lash Blast and they've just been building on it for years. I haven't loved every mascara CoverGirl has put out, but I've definitely got my favorites - and I think that's true for a lot of people. The newest addition to the CoverGirl mascara lineup is the So Lashy! Blast Pro Mascara* and as soon as I saw the completely insane brush, I was 100% in to try it out.

About:
  • Bold sexy lashes for all! Get the bold, dark, voluminous lashes you’ve dreamed of with COVERGIRL So Lashy! Mascara. Our 3-in-1 brush shapes, molds and builds lashes regardless of your lash type, while the specialized ball tip gets the corners and hard to reach lashes. Find the perfect mascara for any occasion.

As you can see, the wand on this mascara is pretty much completely wackadoo. (Yes, that's a common word in my vocabulary.) It's basically got these thin strips of bristles that curve outwards from the wand and are hollow on the inside as well as a very spiky little ball tip. So weird, but also... So intriguing, right? It took me a couple of applications to get used to using it, but once I did I found that it worked quite well.

One thing that I was really concerned about was whether the rubber bristles were going to be soft, because I've stabbed myself in the eye with some not-so-soft rubber bristles before and it was no fun. We're in luck! These are actually really soft and I haven't had any issues with stabbing myself.

When it comes to mascara formula, I feel like there's a significant amount of preference involved. This formula is quite wet and, while not thin, I would definitely not say it's thick either. I personally prefer a drier mascara, so this isn't my favorite, but I actually really do like the consistency because I feel like it keeps things from clumping up too much but still builds on itself for some decent volume. I don't think this is as volumizing as the Covergirl Super Sizer, but I think it does build up well for a look that is fairly full. I also suspect that I'll be able to build this more once it dries out a little bit.

As you can see, this is a very black formula and it does give a nice look to the lashes. It's not the most lengenthing or volumizing mascara out there, but it does decently well at both. For people with really straight lashes that need help holding a curl, I don't think this is the best choice of mascara for you because it can be kind of heavy on the lashes, but I don't find it too much of a problem for me personally.

Overall, I'd say that, while this definitely isn't my favorite mascara from CoverGirl (Super Sizer FTW!) I think this is a good mascara that I think a lot of people will enjoy. I would recommend it for people who like a wetter formula and don't have pin-straight lashes that need help holding a curl. Also, if you love a really weird wand, give this one a go because it's one of the weirdest looking, but still functioning ones that I've seen!
