REVIEW: Hard Candy Sheer Envy Color Correct Cushion Wonder

by - March 23, 2017

I've been a fan of corrector under my eyes for quite some time now, but the ones I tend to really like can often be at a high end price point and are often packaged in a pot, so I was pretty excited to see the new Hard Candy Sheer Envy Color Correct Cushion Wonder releases at my local Walmart. I decided to pick up the peach shade, but it also comes in a yellow shade and a green shade, as well as a lavender shade that I didn't see on the shelf locally. I may grab the other shades at some point in the future, but for now we're focusing on under eye brightening!

For my full review, keep reading!

First I want to talk about the sponge tip, because I feel like that's the thing that interested me the most and that I have the strongest feelings about. I think that functionally for applying the product, this works quite well. It doesn't apply too much and though it's quite big I don't find it applies sloppily over the skin. I will say, though, that I do require another tool to blend the product out once it's applied to my skin. Generally, I apply with the sponge and then I go in with a beautyblender to really work it into the skin. Overall, for application I quite like this tip, but I do have a couple of issues with it.

My problems with the sponge tip are twofold. The first is the one that I think most people have with sponge tips in face products, which is that they can end up collecting bacteria because there's no way to clean them. Because I'm mostly using this one under my eyes and on clean skin, that's not the biggest concern for me but I know it will be for some other people. The second issue I have is the combination of the squeeze tube and the sponge tip. I tossed this in my drawer with my other concealers and I suspect that something sat on top of it, because the next time I went to use it, the cap was just caked with product that had oozed out of the sponge tip and gotten all over the inside of the lid. I think that because you squeeze this to get the product out, you have to be careful that it doesn't get squeezed at all when you're not using it, or you will have a mess. I haven't figured out how I'm going to store this yet, but I think it will require thoughtful storage.

For my skin tone, which is on the fair to light side, I think this shade of peach is pretty perfect. With some peachy correctors, I find that they can be too dark and ultimately require quite a bit of concealer to cover, which can look heavy and aging under the eyes, but this shade is nice and light and I find that it covers really easily with just a light coat of concealer.

For darker skin tones, however, this might be an issue and I could imagine that on those skin tones this could lead to too much brightness under the eyes. I would say this would probably be good for fair to medium skin tones, but any deeper than that and you might not find this to be a shade that works for you. You could also try the yellow shade, which could be more suited to your skin tone.

I have to say that when it comes to the formula, that's where this product really shines for me. It has a surprising amount of pigmentation packed into quite a light weight formula, so it really does do the job of colour correcting but it doesn't add too much product to the undereyes. I feel like that's really a difficult chord to strike when it comes to undereye products and one where a lot of brands end up failing for me.

I also like how easily it blends out and how natural it actually ends up looking. Generally I just add a light layer of concealer over top and then set with loose powder and it really does look gorgeous. That being said, you ABSOLUTELY NEED to set this. Without a setting powder, this seriously creases under the eyes, but as long as it's set I haven't had any significant issues with creasing.

Overall, while I do think there are a few little issues with the packaging of the Hard Candy Sheer Envy Color Correct Cushion Wonder, I think the product itself is really worth trying out. Like I said, I haven't tried out the other two shades, but the formula of the peach shade is really great for use on the undereyes for moderate dark circles on my skin tone.

Hard Candy products are available exclusively at Walmart in Canada and the US.
