REVIEW: Wise Men's Care Introductory Bundle

by - February 16, 2018

Hey guys! I've got something a little different for you guys today - but I thought it was pretty interesting. When I met my boyfriend, he had a bottle of shampoo and a bar of soap in his shower and that's all he used from head to toe. Slowly, I've been working more products into his routine, from hair and body products to skin care, and I can see that he's really cultivating what he enjoys using and thinking of self care in a different way these days. Recently, I got the chance to try out the Wise Men's Care Introductory Bundle* and of course I passed the products along to him to test out.

More and more, I think we're seeing men thinking about the products they use, choosing things that are more than just functional, and focusing on both the enjoyment of using a product and the ethics of the company that makes them. My boyfriend, specifically, uses only enviromentally friendly products and prefers that they have natural and ethically sourced ingredients, making him sort of a perfect customer for Wise Men's Care. Wise caters to a new generation of conscious consumer; those who want thoughtful, carefully-sourced, and natural personal care products down to the last ingredient and packaging detail.

Wise Birch Bark Daily Shampoo in Minimalist Pouch
White Birch Bark extract is a sustainable botanical extract found in the Canadian Boreal forest and renowned for its high levels of vitamin C and antioxidants. Less foamy and artificial than most competitors, the unique array of essential oils found in this shampoo offer both aromatherapy and an exceptional cleansing experience.
475ml  Minimalist Pouch - $34/CAD / 100ml Glass Bottle - $20CAD

Because this is a natural formula that doesn't contain SLS, this isn't going to be a really sudsy shampoo, which was the thing that my boyfriend was most uncertain about. That said, the formula of this was absolutely perfect for his hair type. His hair is naturally quite oily and this gave a really strong cleanse that cut through that quite well and left his hair feeling really clean. He did need to use conditioner with it, as his hair is a little bit longer and he likes the softness that conditioner brings, but he really liked how the shampoo worked and I suspect that he will get used to the lack of foam.

Packaged in their minimalist pouch, you can either use this shampoo straight from the pouch or you can transfer it to a different container, like their Reusable Glass Bottle. I highly recommend doing that, because as much as I appreciate that the pouch packaging uses significantly less plastic, it can be a little bit tricky to use in the shower.

Glacier Clay Pomade in Reusable Glass Bottle
This pomade is made with hand-picked organic glacial marine clay from northern British Columbia, an ingredient renowned for its abundance of beneficial minerals. Great for any hair type, it features a medium yet natural hold with a matte finish and a fresh and earthy scent from north-western Canada. Unlike most styling products, the ingredients of this Glacial Clay pomade can help to promote healthy hair by moisturizing, nourishing and protecting throughout the day.
60ml Glass Bottle - $34CAD /  60g Minimalist Tube $20CAD

The first thing that struck me about this pomade is that it is THICK. I would recommend using the back of a fingernail to get some of the product out of the container and then warming it up really well with your hands before applying it to the hair. I've also discovered that keeping it in the bathroom while you shower can help to soften it up a little bit so it can be a little bit easier to work with, but it is definitely going to end up being something that takes a little bit more work.

What's cool about it though is that once he gets it to the consistency that he needs, it will give a decent amount of hold in his hair without really looking like product, so he can get that easy going, naturally tousled look. I really think that this product will be great for some people and just not quite right for others, but for the guy who is willing to do a little bit more work but wants an effortless look, this could be exactly the right product.

Also, this jar packaging with the wooden lid is absolutely gorgeous! Could not leave that unsaid.

Overall, I think that Wise Men's Care is a really interesting addition to the men's products market. The formulations are really good, the packaging is really thoughtful and enviromentally conscious, and the products offer an experience that transcends simply functional men's care products.

The Wise Men's Care Introductory Bundle* retails for $60CAD. Check out their website for more products and some really great giftable bundles for the men in your life who are looking for natural, environmentally friendly personal care products!
