REVIEW: CeraVe Ultra Light Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30

by - June 13, 2019

Hey guys! In the past year, I've developed a little bit of an obsession with CeraVe, I must say. Their cleansers and creams have become absolute staples for me. I've also been paring down my skin care routine in general, opting for a more streamlined routine that gets everything I need done without ever feeling overwhelming or being too much for my skin, and CeraVe has definitely been a huge part of that. So, of course, I was super excited to try out the CeraVe Ultra Light Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30*, though I'll have to admit that I was a little bit concerned that it wasn't going to work out for me.

I just wanna talk for a minute about some of the things that really have been making me fall in love with CeraVe. First and foremost, because I'm a really mindful of maintaining my moisture barrier, I love that all of the CeraVe products contain ceramides, so they don't only protect my moisture barrier by being quite gentle, but they also really help with restoring and maintaining it. Seriously, I don't know why ceramides don't get the love they deserve in the skin care world because they're not only backed by evidence but they're also really, really fundamental.

Another thing that I really love about CeraVe products is that all of them are really gentle and unscented. As much as I love a beautiful smelling, experiential skin care product - because I really do - I've actually been trying to use less products that contain fragrance that I don't rinse down the drain. It's hard to do and I'll admit that I'm unlikely to entirely switch to only fragrance free products, but I love that CeraVe is a brand that I know I can reach for and get good results from that doesn't contain fragrance and is very unlikely to irritate my skin.

The CeraVe Ultra Light Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30* contains hyaluronic acid and three essential ceramides and promises a lightweight texture, a matte finish, broad spectrum SPF 30, and that it won't clog pores or cause irritation. Sounds kinda perfect, right?

The promise of a lightweight matte finish with an SPF 30 is basically exactly what I personally need in a daytime moisturizer in the summer, and really what I think a lot of us are looking for. The only thing I wasn't quite sure about was the actual sunscreen ingredients in this because I've personally struggled with finding a chemical sunscreen that doesn't irritate my skin and cause me to break out. Generally, when it comes to what I put on my face, I've really only had success up until now with mineral filters. I've been really, really pleased with the results of this product because I haven't experienced any irritation or breakouts when using it - Score! The UV filters in this moisturizer are Homosalate, Octisalate, Avobenzone, and Octocrylene, in case you're wondering, and together offer broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

I have to say, I've been really, really impressed with how this product works for my skin. It's interesting because it really is a lightweight lotion texture that works into the skin fairly quickly - generally I apply it at the end of my morning skin care and do my eye makeup before I apply my foundation and by that point it's absorbed and my skin is good to go - but it packs a pretty solid punch of hydration and I've found that my skin looks and feels healthy and hydrated throughout the day when I use this. I also haven't noticed any lingering greasiness on the face or had makeup breaking up on me any more than usual, which is very much appreciated and has been an issue for me in the past.

Overall, I have to say I'm really, really thrilled to have found this product and I suspect that it'll be a staple in my routine this summer. I've always reached for a separate moisturizer and SPF because I've never found a combined product that worked well for me, so this is really appreciated. I love the texture, I feel like the finish is more of a natural matte with a little bit of that from within luminosity that chemical sunscreen products tend to have, and I really, really like how this plays with my skin and wears throughout the day.

Honestly, I feel like this product is going to be a serious hit for CeraVe and I think that a lot of people will find, like I did, that it's a perfect morning moisturizer that offers a solid amount of SPF protection for day to day use (use something stronger for the beach, friends!) and it's quite gentle and doesn't irritate the skin or cause breakouts at all. I'm in love!
